Delhi is a very old city. The present site and nearby area had been made capital by various kings many times. Yudhistir, the eldest of Pandava brothers from the Mahabharata was the first to settle down here. Then its name was Indraprastha.
The name Dilli had come from Raja Dhilu who ruled it in first century BC. Present Delhi was built by King Sahajahan in 17th Century. Then it was known as Sahajahanabad. British shifted here in 1911. They built New Delhi.
Delhi has many old buildings like Qutub Minar, Red Fort, Jama Masjid and many more. Amongst many new buildings are Rastrapati Bhavan, India Gate and many more.
Mahatma Gandhi and Indira Gandhi were assassinated over here. Their Samadhi
are here.
