Introduction

Words that tell us more about a person, place, animal, or thing are called Describing Words. 

These words describe how something looks, feels, smells, tastes, or sounds. They help us understand things better by giving us more information.

For example:

• The red apple is tasty. Red describes the apple's color.
• The soft pillow is on the bed. Soft tells us how the pillow feels.

What Do Describing Words Do

Describing words help us by telling:

• How something looks – big, small, round, tall, blue
• How something feels – soft, hard, cold, hot
• How something tastes – sweet, sour, salty, bitter
• How something smells – fresh, stinky, flowery, fruity
• How something sounds – loud, quiet, musical, noisy

Examples of Describing Words in Sentences

1. The blue sky looks beautiful. 
   Blue tells about the color of the sky.

3. The soup is hot.

Describing People, Places, and Things

• People: smart, kind, happy, tall, short
• Places: crowded, quiet, beautiful, clean
• Things: soft, sharp, colorful, heavy
