Introduction to the Internet

• Internet is a network connecting millions of computers worldwide.

History of Internet

Requirements for Internet Connection

• Modem (Modulator Demodulator) connects computer to the Internet.
• Internal and external modems; speed measured in bits per second (bps).
• Data transfer media, wired or wireless.

ISP (Internet Service Provider)

• Organizations providing Internet services for a fee, e.g., Airtel, Vodafone, etc.

Search Engine

• Used to find information on the Internet.
• Examples: Google, Bing, AOL, Ask, Yahoo!, MSN.

Email

• Stands for Electronic Mail.
• Quick, economical, and data saved on the server.
• Email account has a unique ID with username and domain name.

Creating an Email Account (Using Gmail)

• Visit Gmail website (www.gmail.com).
• Click on "Create account" and fill in personal details.
• Agree to Terms of Service and complete setup.

Composing an Email

• Click on "Compose" button.
• Fill recipient's email, subject, and content.
• Attach files if needed.
• Click "Send" to send the email.

Replying and Forwarding Emails

• Reply by clicking "Reply" button, forward using "Forward" button.
• Enter recipient's address and click "Send."

Signing Out

• Click on Google account button and select "Sign out" to close the email account.
