Once upon a time, an old carpenter bought a very strange piece of wood. As he began working on it with his tools, he was surprised to hear a little voice laughing and saying, “Stop! You’re tickling me.” The old man was confused by the voice coming from the wood and thought, "This is a very unusual piece of wood. What should I do with it?" He decided to carve the wood into a puppet.
As the puppet took shape, the old carpenter decided to name it Pinocchio. As soon as he finished making the eyes, the carpenter was shocked to see them move. Before the mouth was even completed, it started to laugh. The old man told it to stop laughing, and it did, but as soon as the carpenter turned his back, the puppet stuck out its tongue, and its nose grew longer.
When the puppet’s hands were finished, it mischievously snatched the carpenter’s wig and put it on its own head. Each time Pinocchio did something wrong, like being rude or telling a lie, his nose grew longer.
After the puppet's legs and feet were made, they were too stiff to use. The carpenter had to show Pinocchio how to walk. Eventually, the old carpenter decided to send Pinocchio to school. But instead of studying, Pinocchio just wanted to have fun and often ran away from school.
When the carpenter asked why Pinocchio wasn’t going to school, Pinocchio lied, and his nose started growing longer and longer. Every time he was rude or told a lie, his nose would grow even more. Finally, Pinocchio realized that being honest and good was important. He said, “I’m glad to be a real boy. I’ll never lie again.”
The theme of this story is the importance of honesty and good behavior. Pinocchio’s growing nose symbolizes the consequences of lying and misbehavior. The story teaches that being truthful and kind will help one become a better person, just like Pinocchio wanted to be a real boy.
