Ans:
According to the poet, the character of the rebel is like someone who always disagrees with everyone and delivers a different opinion about himself as well as others. This type of character is usually not accepted by the society.

Ans:
The poet means to say that when the common people wears a uniform, the rebel represents himself in a colourful and fantastic clothes. He tries to destroy the discipline of the society.

Ans:
The poet means to say that we are surrounded by rebels. Within rebels it would be difficult to compare the negative and positive side of a person. But it is not very good to become a rebel become these type of people are not acceptant by the society.

Ans:
He lived in a pavilion, under a thatched roof which rested on thick tree stumps so that it could fall in when Kari bumped against the poles as he moved about.

He goes into the forest to get some luscious twigs for his dinner. One has to have a very sharp hatchet to cut down these twigs and it takes half an hour to sharpen the hatchet because if a twigs is mutilated an elephant will not touch it.

The poet, D.J. Enright the appearance of the rebel. He says that when everybody gets their hairs short, the rebel would let his hairs grow much long. Again, when everybody grows their hair long, the rebel chops his hairs short however, he finds pleasure and satisfaction by going against the common people.

Ans:
Here, the poet, D.J Enight highlights the liking of the rebel are totally against the others. When the rebel is surrounded himself in the group of dog lovers, he prefer to the cats much more. Again, when he finds in the group of cat lovers, his preference changes for dogs. In this way, the rebel differentiate from the others each and everytime.

Ans:
Here, in the poem “ The rebel”, the poet, D.J Enright expresses the rebel like an introvert. He stays at home and prefers to read a books when he find everyone is going to attend the meeting. And on the other hand, when the others stays at home and reads some books, he prefer to attend the meeting the rebel always follows the opposite path of the others.

Ans:
Kari was an elephant and was five months old baby. He lives and grows up with his keeper, i.e. the author. Kari did not eat much but he nevertheless needed forty pounds of luscious things a day to chew and play with. He was a playful and sensitive kind of animal. IT was not an easy job to get twigs and saplings for Kari. As he was very fond of the young branches of the banyan tree which grows like a cathedral of leaves and branches. Kari also saved a young boy from drawing.

In the poem “The rebel”, the poet, D.J Eniright expresses the nature of the rebel. The rebel finds himself calm and quiet, when everyone is talking during their lesson Again, the rebel creates noise and disturbance on his surrounding, when the other are silent during their lesson therefore, he constantly goes against the norms of the society.

An elephant must be taught when to sit down, when to walk, when to go fast and when to go slow. If we say ‘Dhat and pull him by the ear, he will gradually learn to sit down similarly if we say ‘Mali’ and pull his trunk forward, he will gradually learn that it is the signal to walk.

Ans:
If we are last in the jungle and there is no way out. Then the only thing to do is to give the master call and at once the elephant pulls down the tree in front of him with his trunk. The poet, D.J Enright discusses how the rebel changes preference with the weather when the others are praising for the sunlight, the rebel hopes for a rain. On the other hand, when the rebel finds it is raining, he regrets the absence of the sunlight. Therefore, the rebel is not accepted by the society.

Ans:
A rebel is a person who thinks in a different way with regards to the common people. He doesn’t follow the rules and regulations of the society and goes against it. He represents himself as everyone would pay attention to the odd one. Therefore, such kind of person is basically not accepted by the norms of the society.

Ans:
Everyday he used to take him to the river in the morning for his bath. He would lie down on the sand bank while the author rubbed hi with the clean sand of the river for an hour. After that he would lie in the water for a long time. On coming out his skin would be shining like ebony. And he squeal with pleasure as the author rubbed water down his back.

Q24. Why an elephant should be taught to sit down?
Ans:
An elephant should be taught to sit down because he grows taller and taller than us who take care of him, so that when he is two or three years old, we can only reach his back with a ladder. It is, therefore, better to reach him to sit down by saying ‘Dhat’ so that we can climb upon his back.
