CONNECTIVE TISSUE

? In biology, unit of life is called as a cell whereas a tissue is a
cellular assembly which is intermediate between cells and a
complete organ. Hence a tissue is a group of similar cells from
the same origin which together carry out a specific function.
Further grouping of these tissues forms an Organ.

? The human body is made up of 4 types of tissues: muscular
tissue, epithelial tissue, connective tissue and nervous tissue.

? The cementing material in our body which helps to bind the
body together and connect all the organs and parts of the body
is called as connective tissue.

? The cells that make up this tissue are present in a gel-like
substance called medium or matrix which forms the main
bulk of the connective tissue.

? The tissue that connects two bones is called a ligament and
the one which connects muscles to the bones is called as
tendon. Both of these are a type of dense connective tissue.

? The skin is connected to our muscles with a type of connective
tissue which is loose and hence this tissue gets its name as an
areolar or loose connective tissue.

FAQs on Connective tissue - Exercise - Tissues - Class 9 - Science - CBSE Class 9 Biology(TISSUES)-Videos & documents by Letstute

1. What is connective tissue?
Ans. Connective tissue is a type of biological tissue that provides support, structure, and protection to various organs and tissues in the body. It consists of cells, fibers, and an extracellular matrix that holds everything together.
2. How does exercise affect connective tissue?
Ans. Exercise has a positive impact on connective tissue. When we exercise, our muscles contract, which pulls on the connective tissue, stimulating its growth and strengthening. Regular exercise helps to improve the flexibility and elasticity of connective tissue, reducing the risk of injuries.
3. What are the different types of connective tissue?
Ans. There are various types of connective tissue in the human body, including: - Loose connective tissue: It provides support and flexibility to organs and holds them in place. - Dense connective tissue: It forms tendons and ligaments, which connect muscles and bones. - Adipose tissue: It stores fat and provides insulation and energy storage. - Cartilage: It cushions and protects the joints. - Bone tissue: It provides support and structure to the body. - Blood: It is a fluid connective tissue that transports oxygen, nutrients, and waste products throughout the body.
4. How does connective tissue repair itself after an injury?
Ans. The repair process of connective tissue depends on the type and severity of the injury. In general, when connective tissue is injured, the body initiates an inflammatory response, which helps to remove damaged cells and debris. Subsequently, new cells are produced to replace the damaged ones. The body also synthesizes collagen, a protein that gives strength to connective tissue, to facilitate the healing process.
5. How can we keep our connective tissue healthy?
Ans. To keep connective tissue healthy, it is important to maintain an active lifestyle and engage in regular exercise. This helps to stimulate the growth and strengthening of connective tissue. Eating a balanced diet rich in collagen-building nutrients, such as vitamin C and amino acids, can also support connective tissue health. Additionally, avoiding smoking and excessive alcohol consumption can help prevent damage to connective tissue.
