It's time to kick off with a bang! In this video, we will explore a quick and easy method to create amazing YouTube thumbnails using AI, specifically with the help of Midjourney. If you're new to my channel, welcome! Don't forget to subscribe, and for those who are already subscribed, thank you for your support. Let's dive into the world of AI and revolutionize our YouTube thumbnails this year.
Before we jump into the process, let's discuss why thumbnails hold such significance. When viewers come across your videos, the thumbnail is the first thing they see. It plays a crucial role in catching their attention and enticing them to click and watch your content. With millions of videos on YouTube, having an eye-catching thumbnail sets your video apart from the rest and increases the likelihood of viewers clicking on it.
Step 1: Introducing Midjourney
The AI engine we'll be using for creating our thumbnails is Midjourney. If you haven't done so already, create an account on Midjourney and sign in. The interface I use for Midjourney is through Discord, so join the beta and follow the steps provided to get started.
Step 2: Selecting a Thumbnail
To begin the process, find a thumbnail that you like and take a screenshot of it. For example, let's take a thumbnail from one of the most popular YouTubers, MrBeast. Capture the desired thumbnail and save it for further use.
Step 3: Reverse Engineering with Clip Interrogator
To generate an AI thumbnail based on the screenshot, we'll use a tool called Clip Interrogator. This tool allows us to reverse engineer a prompt for any image we find. By feeding the tool the screenshot, we can obtain the necessary prompt for Midjourney. The prompt contains metadata describing the image, such as "a man standing beside a sports car," and guides the AI to generate relevant thumbnails.
Step 4: Generating AI Thumbnails
Now it's time to use Midjourney and create our AI thumbnails. Open Midjourney in Discord and input the obtained prompt from the Clip Interrogator. Additionally, specify the desired version (e.g., version 4) and aspect ratio (e.g., 3:2). The AI will generate several thumbnail options for you to choose from.
Upon examining the generated thumbnails, you may notice a common element among them. In this case, it could be an expressive, shocked facial expression. To emulate this style in our thumbnails, create a new prompt mentioning the desired emotion and additional details. Experiment with different prompts, versions, and aspect ratios until you find a thumbnail that suits your preference.
Once you're satisfied with a particular thumbnail, upscale it if necessary. This upscaled image can be used directly as your YouTube thumbnail. If you prefer to generalize the approach, you can modify the prompts to suit different types of images and create a diverse range of thumbnails.
Remember, this workflow can be applied to any type of picture you find inspiring. Once you have your inspiration, use the Clip Interrogator to reverse engineer a suitable prompt. Experiment with Midjourney until you achieve the desired result. If you want to remove the background, you can utilize tools like "Remove Background." Finally, you can enhance the thumbnail further using design programs like Figma, allowing you to add illustrations, logos, or any creative element you desire.
With the power of AI image generation, the possibilities for creating captivating YouTube thumbnails are endless. This method using Midjourney and Clip Interrogator is an excellent starting point for incorporating AI into your thumbnail creation process. Feel free to explore and experiment, making thumbnails that reflect your unique style and evoke the desired emotions in your viewers.
