Death Bell Guitar Lesson Video Lecture | Guitar: Become a Pro (English) - Music

all right today we learn how to play my
song death Bell which is a short song
but it's filthy filthy a song on the
album most likely and it's got a cool
kind of pentatonic e intro riff that
goes into some power chords for the rest
of song so maybe it's kind of a good a
good lesson in keeping things bluesy
simple and just like heavy right so this
is the Mesa on the Mesa 525 on the burn
channel gain is dime doubt all the way
so it's really screaming I don't have
the amp up super loud right now because
then you wouldn't hear the other
microphone but basically so the intro
played super smell is like this
all right so we're kind of basing it on
this B minor pentatonic thing going on
right here right so the seventh fret of
the e-string you really got to hit that
beer to kind of like show that you've
arrived and the key of B minor
pentatonic right so we hit that B first
and then we go to this unison Ben right
so I've got nine on the g string seven
on the B string and my middle finger is
kind of on eight on the g string to help
me get back that super nasty band right
very bluesy so I'm kind of bending this
note right here
until it matches this no
so if yeah and I'm the third one you
come down
to the south the seventh fret and an end
I'm an octave so be
you gotta make that face chewy you get
that bad very very useful rock technique
and the second time you do it I'm kind
of making a chord out of this right so I
got my pinkie on the last note in this
pentatonic scale here right which is the
tenth fret of the high E string and my
index fingers kind of barring it
this right here the seventh fret on the
G and B string so I'm getting it's like
this is a denotes this is like a D major
or same forward by higher voice in
community all right so after this I'm
kind of getting the cord getting just
the ninth fret and the chord again so
the third part of this intro is the
first part again
and then the fourth part
so it's like a triplet thing right we
get that B again

all right so we've got think of it as
groups of triplets so the first one is
it going backwards through the
pentatonic scale 10 7 10 bu then back a
note 7 and 10 B 7 B and then we go back
to my ring finger for where's game so
that third triplet is from 10 B slide to
12 to 10 a or 10 a.m. and then really
get that got a scream the 12th fret on
the high E string so again ok so all
four parts together are one
pretty much this one again
all right so that's the intro and it's
also the outro too but after that we get
into some power chord stuff which sounds
like this
so uh yeah with the vocals like going to
change
all right so we've got power cores into
another kind of triplet rifting so I'm
starting on a B power chord which is the
seventh fret of the E string with the
ninth fret of a stringer then I go back
two frets down a step to the fifth fret
which is a a so then down a string to it
eeya and then up to this which is really
you can think of this as like a D power
chord but an inversion I'm getting the
fifth fret of the E string which is a
and the fifth fret of the a string which
is a d so this is actually a lower
voiced inversion of this power for so

then after the BA the second time around
I got this so again more triplets I'm
just taking the a string going from
seven five and then doing the same thing
on the E string so it's seven five a
seven five and then I end on that D v
Fridays
all right so
relax
d yeah this is like a good amount of
vibrato on that - alright so the second
time we do that
we've got another kind of run going on
so I'm going
more Triplets the sounds rock-and-roll
heavy-metal triplets right we've got 7a
off and then I'm picking a string yet so
it's a note of pulling a pick

12 it
so

that kind of brings us into I guess what
you called the chorus which is

which is it's really just kind of like
chromatic descending things starting
with octaves on the fifth fret of the a
string and is active the seventh fret of
the g string so this is a dia this two
bars four one two three one two three
four
and notice I'm choking these instead of
it kind of gives it that kind of peppy
burst feeling
two four
and what that does is walking me down to
the B I'm going D D flat C instead of
going to this beat I'm back to ya the
filthy B right here and then back to
hitting that intro again now the second
time I go to this chorus or whatever
it's a little bit different because
let's just switch it up because I'm just
a wild crazy dude so instead of going
from like you might be expecting a
curveball we go Amaya third higher
so uh with lyrics is part that all right
so uh it's basically just the same
pattern is the first time as far as
though but I'm going from five to eight
a so octaves to seven so ever think of D
minor I'm going from the root to the
minor third to a second one two

and then after I do that a while I go
back to the the original one
but we're gonna beef it up by adding the
fifth below that alright so we've got
here we've got a root note and it's
octave now if my pointer finger grabs
that same fret 5 even kind of like that
inversion we used earlier in the song
but now I'm just beefing up this octave
thing
gives it such a heavier I don't know
metal whatever you want to call it a
heavier feel to her right so I guess I'm
kind of thinking of this is even though
it's a short song I tried to kind of
make it a little dynamic on the way
through so that's why the first time is
just a straight-up pocket and the second
time through it's little heavier
and then it goes to that outro where the
sea creature comes in brilliantly
animated I might add and just starts
wreaking havoc so if you haven't seen
the video check that out because I
really don't have a reason for you to
check it out other than took me a long
time to animate it but basically that is
how you play death bell track number was
at number eight off the album I think
