Describe a time someone or something made a lot of noise | Speaking for IELTS PDF Download

You should say:

  • when this happened
  • who this person was/what this thing was
  • what kinds of noise was
  • and explain what you did when you heard the noise

Sample Answer:

  • Living in a populous nation like India has its own pros and cons. Talking about the latter, you will find noise at almost every nook and corner. If I had to share one incident when somebody made a lot of noise, I would like to tell you about our family functions.
  • So, I belong to an authentic Punjabi background, and we are generally extremely clamorous. Last year, it was one of my cousins’ 15th birthday, and her parents decided to throw a party. During this party, the entire family got together. Additionally, the extended family was invited as well.
  • Thus, the women formed a group and sat at a specific place. There were almost 20 of them. Together, they began talking and laughing at the highest pitch. In the entire party, this was the loudest gang.
  • For a moment, we all thought they were fighting with one another. However, we saw them laughing and relishing their conversations like little children when we reached closer.
  • While watching them ecstatic was a happy vibe; a few people even advised them to decrease the pitch. But, the ladies didn’t pay any heed to the requests. And then, when the men of my family joined them, the scenario was entirely out of the world.

Follow-ups
Q1: Why do some people make loud noises in public places?
Ans:
Some people make loud noises in public places because they are unaware of the disturbance they are causing to others. Others may do it out of excitement or enthusiasm, especially in crowded areas. In some cases, people might not realize that they are being disruptive or simply don’t consider how their actions affect others.

Q2: How can noise pollution affect people's daily lives?
Ans:
Noise pollution can have various negative effects, such as causing stress, reducing concentration, and even leading to hearing loss over time. It can also disrupt sleep, which affects people’s overall health and well-being. In urban areas, constant noise from traffic, construction, or public events can make it difficult for people to relax and focus.

Q3: What measures can be taken to reduce noise in public spaces?
Ans:
To reduce noise in public spaces, authorities can enforce noise control laws, such as limiting the volume of music or noise from vehicles during certain hours. People can also be educated on the importance of being mindful of others by lowering their voices in public. In addition, soundproofing measures in buildings and using quieter machinery in construction and industry can help reduce noise pollution.

Q4: Do you think loud noises can ever be enjoyable?
Ans:
Yes, loud noises can sometimes be enjoyable, especially in situations like concerts, festivals, or sports events where people come together to celebrate and cheer. In these contexts, loud noises are often associated with excitement, energy, and enjoyment. However, the key is that everyone involved is part of the experience and is comfortable with the noise level.
