Gujarat, a prosperous state located in Western India, is well-known not only as the birthplace of Mahatma Gandhi but also as the site of the ancient Indus Valley Civilization. The state's capital is Gandhinagar, with Ahmedabad being its largest city. According to the 2011 census, Gujarat has a population of 60,383,628 and spans an area of 196,024 square kilometers. It shares borders with Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Maharashtra. The literacy rate in Gujarat stands at 79.31 percent. In terms of area, Gujarat is the 7th largest state in India. The state's 196,024 square kilometers are currently divided into 26 districts. When Gujarat was formed in 1960, it had 17 districts, but the number has since increased to 33. After 1960, all the northern districts of the former Bombay State became part of Gujarat.
