Ans:
If all the farmers will grow only one kind of seeds and crops, the price for these seeds and crops would fall and there would be no profit to the farmers. Moreover, growing same kind of seeds and crop on the same land will extract the same minerals from the soil each time and a result the soil will be deprived of these minerals.

Q2: Talk to the elders in your family and find out if there were some special foods cooked earlier, that are not cooked anymore?
Ans:
After talking to the elders of my family I found that there were no special food items which were made earlier and are not made any more.

Q3: There have been many changes in our food. What can this mean? Use the seed story and what you know from elders to explain.
Ans:
There have been many changes in our food such as:

  • Earlier people used to eat a variety of foods like bajra, jowar, wheat etc., but now we are eating mainly wheat.
  • Earlier the old seeds were stored and grown in the nest year. Now a days new variants of seeds are grown and their products are quite different in taste.
  • Earlier the foods were eaten in very simple forms, not very much spicy and overheated.
  • Earlier, the traditional methods of irrigation (moat, canal), ploughing etc., were used whereas now a days, new methods of irrigation (sprinkler, drip), ploughing are being used.


Q4: List down what all changes have happened in the village over the years?
Ans: 
There are so many changes that happened in the past few years in the village. Some places got water from the canal. These canals brought water from far away from where a dam had been built on a big river. Then electricity came. People found that only one or two crops, like wheat and cotton, got better prices in the market. Farmers even began to buy seeds from the market.

Q5: Discuss the kinds of changes which have taken place in agricultural practices over the years and explain their reasons.
Ans:
With less number of cows and buffaloes, the farmers have to use artificial fertilisers. These artificial fertilisers are harmful in excessive amount. The canal water was not enough for the new crops. All the farmers used pumps to lift water from deep under the ground. To meet all the expenses, most of the farmers have to depend on loans.

Q6: What all changes have happened when the tractor has been into the use?
Ans: 
After the tractor has come, even people who worked on the fields, are no longer needed. Because of this, unemployment has been increased, and people need to move on other work in order to earn their living expenses.

Ans:
With the advanced farming techniques and changes in the market atmosphere, he was earning a lot of money. He rebuilt the old house. He brought new machines for farming. He used an electric motor to pump water. He bought a motorcycle to go to the city easily and also a tractor to plough the field.

The work of crushing and separating seeds is done by big machines, such as threshers
