There were many freedom fighters of Haryana who dared to for an independent India while fighting the oppressive British rulers. Others, although deserving of every bit of fame there is, remain unknown to the general public today, while some are revered all over the world. Here is a list of unsung heroes of Haryana.

Bansi Lal

  • Birth Year: 1927
  • Death Year: 2006
  • Contribution: Freedom fighter, senior Congress leader, former Chief Minister, and the architect of Haryana.

Bhopal Singh Arya

  • Birth Year: 1909
  • Death Year: 1991
  • Contribution: Social worker and freedom fighter from village Chahar Khurd district Bhiwani in Haryana.

Buja Ram Khichar

  • Birth Year: 1902
  • Death Year: 1968
  • Contribution: Freedom fighter, popularly known as Bujja Bhagat.

Devak Ram Surah

  • Birth Year: 1904
  • Death Year: 1998
  • Contribution: Divisional Panchayat Officer Haryana and Punjab Head officer Ambala, involved in the freedom movement.

Dharampal Singh Bhalothia

  • Birth Year: 1926
  • Death Year: 2009
  • Contribution: Poet, freedom fighter, reformer, former Chairman Market Committee - Mahendragarh, and author of many books.

Gulab Singh Burrak

  • Birth Year: 1916
  • Death Year: 2007
  • Contribution: Freedom fighter from village Lalhana, originally named Dani Ram.

Matu Ram Hooda

  • Birth Year: 1865
  • Death Year: 1942
  • Contribution: Extensive involvement in Arya Samaj and Independence Movement, sent to Kala Pani by the British Government in India.

Sher Singh Kadyan

  • Birth Year: 1917
  • Death Year: 2009
  • Contribution: Jumped into the freedom movement during his student life, valuable contributions in Hyderabad Movement, Hindi Andolan, and Prohibition Movement.

Sir Chhotu Ram

  • Birth Year: 1881
  • Death Year: 1945
  • Contribution: Opposed the concept of Pakistan, formed a separate group of thirteen members in the Punjab Assembly.

Sultan Singh Gahlot

  • Birth Year: 1923
  • Death Year: 2014
  • Contribution: Joined the Army, developed links with revolutionaries, left the Army to participate in India's freedom struggle in Kolkata.

Sir Chhoturam

  • Born: November 24, 1881, in Rohtak's Gadhi Sampla.
  • Education: Law degree from Agra University.

Contributions

  • Renowned state leader and farmer's messiah.
  • Founded Jat Gazette in 1916 and Zamindar League in 1924.
  • Awarded the title of Sir in 1937 for his contributions.
  • Established the Marketing Board in 1938 to assist farmers.

Sher Nahar Singh

  • Hometown: Ballabgarh.
  • Role in India's First Freedom Fight.
  • Captured in 1857, tried, and hanged at Chandni Chowk on January 9th, 1858.

Nawab Abdurrahaman Khan

  • Served as Nawab of Jhajhar.
  • Participated in the mutiny of 1857, detained, and sentenced to death on October 17, 1857. Executed in front of the Red Fort on October 23, 1857.

Nawab Ahmad Ali Gulam Khan

  • Ruler of Farrokhnagar.
  • Fought against the English, assisted the Delhi Emperor.
  • Raided by English, detained, and hanged at Chandni Chowk on January 23, 1858.

Pt Nekiram Sharma

  • Born: September 4th, 1887, in Bhiwani.
  • Joined Swaraj Sangh in 1916, appointed secretary of the Divisional Conference in 1920.
  • Started publishing Sandesh weekly.
  • Resisted British Army recruitment in Haryana during World War I.
  • Died on June 8th, 1956.

Lala Hukam Chand Jain and Mirza Munir Baig

  • Despite working for the East India government, spoke out against the English Regime.
  • Publicly executed.

Nawab Nur Samand Khan

  • Nawab of Sirsa, participated in the war with the English on June 17, 1857.
  • Lost the war and was executed.

Rao Tula Ram

  • Yaduvanshi Ahir King of Rewari.
  • Played a crucial role as one of the rebellion's commanders in 1857.

Ch Devilal

  • Born in Chautala Village, Sirsa District.
  • Participated in Gandhi's 1942 movement.
  • Appointed Chief Minister of Haryana in 1977.
  • Passed away on April 6th, 2001.

Ranbir Singh Hooda

  • Enlisted in Gandhian army in the 1930s.
  • Detained several times during India's war for independence.
  • Imprisoned in various locations, including Rohtak, Ambala, Hisar, Ferozepur, Lahore, Multan, and Sialkot.

Dharam Singh Hayatpur

  • Well-known Sikh political and religious figure.
  • Belonged to the Babbar Akali Movement.
  • Given a life sentence, later doubled on appeal, and hanged.

Babu Mool Chand Jain

  • Often known as the "Gandhi of Haryana."
  • Member of various political parties.
  • Served as Joint Punjab's Minister and Finance Minister.
  • Died on September 12, 1997.
