JEE Main 2025 Marks Vs Percentile PDF Download

As the Session 1 of IIT JEE Main 2023 exam has concluded, aspirants are worried about how their marks will translate to rank and percentile as that will decide which college are they eligible to apply to.
To help address these concerns, this article provides information on JEE Main marks, percentile, and rank (expected). However, it's important to note that this information is only indicative and not based on NTA results.
The official JEE Main marks vs percentile vs rank for 2023 will be updated on this page once the NTA JEE Main results are announced. Candidates can expect the download link for the IIT JEE Main 2023 result to be activated soon on jeemain.nta.nic.in.

Why is JEE Main Result Announced in Percentile?

  • Since the JEE exam is conducted in two sessions, there is a chance that the difficulty level of the questions may vary.
  • To address this issue, normalization of marks is used.
  • Percentile is NTA’s way of generating a normalized score.
  • Percentile does not represent the actual marks obtained by a candidate, but rather a comparative score that is calculated using the NTA formula.
  • NTA compiles the marks obtained by students in Chemistry, Maths, and Physics, and then uses a normalization formula to arrive at a percentile score for each section.
  • A percentile of 100 is assigned to the top score in each section, and this percentile score is used to create the JEE Main merit list.
  • To avoid ties between two applicants, the percentile score is calculated to seven decimal places.
  • The final percentile score for JEE Main is determined only after the normalization process is completed. This score is calculated on a scale of 100 to 0 for each session.

What is JEE Main Percentile Score?

  • The JEE percentile score compares a candidate's performance to all other test takers and is not the same as a percentage score or raw marks.
  • JEE Main 2023 Percentile Score indicates the percentage of candidates who have scored equal to or less than a particular candidate in the JEE Main 2023 exam.
  • It is calculated based on the raw marks obtained by a candidate in the exam and then normalized using a formula provided by the National Testing Agency (NTA).
  • The percentile score is used to prepare the merit list for JEE Main 2023, and it plays a crucial role in determining a candidate's rank and eligibility for admission to various engineering colleges across India.
  • Preparing with EduRev you’ll get accurate marks, percentile and rank analysis among all other learners on EduRev; with which, you can track your performance effectively.

JEE Main 2023 Marks vs Percentile

After the exam, you can estimate your marks scored well enough based on the official answer key released by NTA. It is important for students to not only understand their marks but also their corresponding percentile scores. The process of assigning rank based on percentile is crucial to comprehend, as it helps students to determine their eligibility for admission to various engineering colleges in India. NTA Normalization Formula

  • The NTA applies a normalization formula to the raw marks obtained by a candidate in each subject - Maths, Physics, and Chemistry, as well as the total, to calculate the corresponding percentile scores.
  • In an ideal scenario, the highest score of each session will get a percentile of 100. The percentile scores are used to prepare the JEE Main merit list, and to avoid any ties among candidates with the same scores, the percentile scores are calculated up to 7 decimal places.
  • To determine a candidate's JEE Main percentile score, normalization is applied to the marks obtained by the candidate.
  • The percentile score indicates the percentage of candidates who have scored equal to or below a particular percentile in the exam, and it is measured on a scale of 0 to 100 for each session of examinees.

A formula is used to calculate the JEE Main marks vs percentile relationship as shown:

JEE Main 2023 Tie-breaker Guidelines

In case of a tie score in JEE Main, the rank is determined based on the following tie-breaking rules:

  • The candidate with higher percentile scores in Mathematics will be given a higher rank.
  • If the tie still persists, the candidate with higher percentile scores in Physics will be given a higher rank.
  • If the tie still exists, then the candidate with higher percentile scores in Chemistry will be given a higher rank.
  • If the tie still persists, then the candidate with the least number of negative responses (or wrong answers) in all the subjects will be given a higher rank.
  • If the tie still remains, the candidate who is older in age will be given a higher rank.

These tie-breaking rules are followed by the National Testing Agency (NTA) to ensure fair and transparent ranking in JEE Main.

Conclusion

The purpose of JEE Main percentile versus marks is to assist applicants in estimating their potential ranking and making decisions regarding their desired colleges and courses. Candidates who aspire to get into top engineering institutes must prepare diligently for all the exams with equal precision and effort. Since the JEE Main percentile score considers the percentile of several session papers, it is essential to focus equally on each subject and prepare well for them.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) Based on JEE Main Marks vs Percentile Vs Rank

What percentile in JEE Main 2023 is considered good?

A percentile within the range of 98 - 99 is considered a good score for the JEE Mains 2023.

Do percentage and Percentile carry the same meaning in JEE Main?

No, percentage and percentile are not the same in JEE Main. Percentage refers to the actual marks obtained by a candidate out of the total marks, expressed as a percentage. Percentile, on the other hand, is the percentage of candidates who have scored equal to or below that particular percentile in the examination. It is a relative score that takes into account the performance of all the candidates who appeared in the exam.

If Score 80 marks in JEE Mains, what would be the percentile?

If Candidates score 80 marks in JEE Mains they will get around 85 to 90 percentile.

How are JEE Main percentile scores calculated with marks?

The NTA applies a formula to calculate the percentile score of candidates based on their raw score. Since the JEE Main exam is conducted in multiple sessions, percentile scores are normalized to ensure fairness across all sessions.

If I appear in all the sessions. Which scores will be counted while declaring the result?

The best of the scores from all the sessions will be considered for merit in JEE Main 2023.
