History

• Jagtial District was formed from the previous Karimnagar district and is bordered by Nizamabad, Nirmal, Mancherial, Peddapalli, and Karimnagar Districts. It comprises three revenue divisions: Jagtial, Metpalle, and Korutla, with its headquarters in Jagtial town.
• The district is intersected by the Godavari River and boasts the significant SRSP Project, a major dam and tourist attraction. The Dhulikatta Buddhist Sthupa dating back to the 2nd century BC holds both historical and archaeological importance. Noteworthy temples in the district include Sri MallikarjunaSwamy Temple in Odela and Sri Varahaswami Temple in Kamanpur Mandal. The railway connects Jagtial to Peddapalli via Karimnagar.

Overview of Kondagattu

• Sri Anjaneya Swamy vari Devasthanam is located on a hill known as Kondagattu.
• The temple is surrounded by hills and forests, situated 40 km from Karimnagar and 16 km from Jagityal.
• It is considered an ancient temple in Jagityal District, believed to be over 500 years old, and attracts a large number of pilgrims.
• The main deity, Sri Anjaneya Swamy varu, is believed to be Swayambhoo, as indicated by the silasasana on the temple's external wall.

Historical Significance

• According to records, Singam Sanjeevudu and Ashamma from Kodimyal Village constructed the temple around 500 years ago.
• Legend has it that Sri Anjaneya Swamy granted a boon to a cowherd regarding the whereabouts of Sri S.Sanjeevudu in the forest.

Deities in the Temple

• Besides Sri Anjaneya Swamy, deities of Sri Venkateswara Swamy, Alwar, and Laxmi Ammavaru are also present in the temple.
• Sri Anjaneya Swamy faces the north side of the temple and is accompanied by Narasimha Vaktram, Amburilla, and shankhu Chakra.

• By Train: Nearest railway station Karimnagar. All trains will have a stop at Karimnagar, which is passing through Karimnagar.
• By Road: Kondagattu is located at a distance of nearly 33 km from Jagtial town and is easily accessible by road.
