Lesson 4: Reading Treble Clef and Bass Clef Notes and Find Them On Piano Video Lecture | Piano Tutorials Course: Beginners to Advance - Class 6

okay and welcome out to Lesson four
quite simply this lesson we are going to
be finding notes on the treble clef and
bass clef except this time we're going
to be translating them onto the keyboard
so I'm going to show you how to find a
given note on the staff and how to find
it on the keyboard I think it'll help
you out immensely with the next one or
two lessons I want to say when we
actually start playing musical examples
so there you have it and hope you enjoy
Thanks so here we are at the piano
before we are talking about how to read
the notes based on where they are on the
treble clef and bass clef now I'm going
to show you how to find those notes on
the keyboard in what specific locations
on the keyboard these notes are located
so we have the treble clef obviously
this one I told you in a previous video
to memorize hopefully you did if not
I'll tell you now that this note here is
middle C and that C will be wrong now
how do you find middle C well there are
a couple of ways if you have a full
88-key keyboard it is going to be the
fourth C on the piano from the bottom so
starting all the way down from the left
at the low notes it's going to be
and for it's also known as c4 so that's
one way to do it an easier way I think
is that if you have a especially if you
have a smaller keyboard because that
might not work the middle C might be
only the second C if it's a smaller
keyboard so most times middle C is right
in the middle of the keyboard you'll
have some kind of writing here in the
middle that tells you your make and
model your keyboard or you'll have an
LCD screen like me and maybe a couple
buttons if you have an electronic
keyboard and C will be right the closest
one to those things so right in the
middle is middle C and that's that note
so when you're figuring these out I want
you to remember them all in relation to
this note right here think about and
burn this image in your mind where
middle C is on the staff that it's it's
own ledger line the first ledger line
below the staff in the treble clef now
bass clef it's a little bit different
and I'll explain that when we get there
but a middle C on its own ledger line
below the staff here let's try the next
note so a note on the staff that first
line hopefully you have memorized your
notes on the staff so this one is what
do you think hopefully said e so that ii
think about where middle C is now middle
C will be below the staff so this e is
going to be right above middle C so
here's middle C and there's the e we're
looking for next one okay so here we
have a note off the staff don't panic
remember that you always want to find
the closest note that you do know which
I think at this point could either be
middle C which is right below this or E
which is right above that first line so
here's middle C and this note is D so
it's going to be right here on the
keyboard
the note directly above middle C so
here's our next one a third space up
from the bottom remember you always want
to count from the bottom to the top with
these and remember that the spaces are f
AC e so this one's going to be C so
where's middle C well middle C is below
the staff and this C definitely is not
middle C so this is going to be a whole
octave or a whole eight notes above
middle C let's try another one here we
go here is a d hopefully said D anyway
and this D actually look at the note we
just did I flipped it on the bottom of
course so here's a note we just did I'd
say this note is pretty close to the one
we just did in fact it's one note away
so you find the C we just did and the
our D for this one is going to be right
here moving on let's skip that one that
one's easy
let's try this one second line treble
clef
that is definitely AG middle C's down
here below so middle so here remember so
we're looking for the G closest to
middle C but still up on on this end of
the piano one thing I wanted to mention
before is that when you're talking about
treble clef you're talking mostly about
notes to the right of middle C mostly
there are exceptions to this rule it's
not so much a role but but there are
exceptions to this and I'll show you
that in just a minute so we're mostly
talking about notes up on the upper end
of the piano next card
let's give that one let's do this one
this one's a good one
so treble clef remember our lines are eg
B D and F so remember middle C's way
down here so this one is going to be
pretty far away from middle C not too
far but it's not going to be the closest
F the closest F to middle C would
actually be this first space so this is
actually going to be a whole octave
or whole
eight notes above that so you have
middle C here's our F above middle C and
we're looking for the one way up here so
there we go that's our note there see
what else we got oh this is the one I'm
talking about this is the so called
exception I was just talking about so
take a look at this it's off the staff
so you want to find the closest note you
do know and I think in this case the
clothes know you do know is actually
middle C so here's middle C now is this
note above or below on the staff
compared to middle C well unlike all the
other ones we've done this one's
actually below so this is actually going
to cross over a little bit into base
clef territory they could have actually
written this note on bass clef all the
way at the top but there is a little bit
of crossover so our note B would be
wrong
directly below middle C so there's a
short explanation of how to find these
notes on the keyboard I may do another
video just practicing this some more I
highly suggest you practice this on your
own you could you can probably look up a
resource online on Google to
double-check your your answers but and
actually some keyboards will tell you
what you know you're playing which is
very helpful but practice this on your
own do your best and in practice as much
as you can get this as good as you can
because then when we start playing
musical examples in the next couple
lessons you'll you'll be much better off
so there you go the finding notes on the
treble clef on the keyboard okay now to
talk about the bass clef finding the
notes on the the bass clef staff on the
keyboard so here we go here's our first
note and I told you in a previous video
to memorize this one as well so take it
second to think about it and hopefully
you remember that this is also middle C
I explained in one of the previous
videos that there is some overlap
between the staffs and they kind of meet
here at middle C so if you remember the
bottom of of the treble clef middle C
was down there but here it's at the top
so if you place treble clef on top there
would be some little bit of overlap
there and they kind of join up the
center here so middle C always remember
where middle C is remember that this
time when you're talking about bass clef
middle C is going to be above here and
actually this time let me move the cards
here because a lot of the notes we're
going to be talking about are going to
be to the left of middle C not not the
right now obviously again there is some
overlap which I will explain but let's
take a look at these so see let's try to
get this one top line bass clef remember
G B D F a and this a is pretty close to
middle C I would say because remember
this is middle C and our a is right
below that so see there's power pay
right there next one now this is a good
one let's try this one this one is G and
remember middle C is way up here on the
bass clef so this G is going to be kind
of far away it's not going to be right
below middle C that G would actually be
the top space there so here's we'll see
here's the G right below
and this G is going to be a whole octave
below that so there there's the note
we're looking for alright let's see uh
that was kind of far down there what
about this one
think about it for a second first space
and hopefully you said a and this a
again is kind of far away from middle C
it's very close to the note we just did
so here we'll see here's a da right
below middle C which would actually be
that top line and we're looking for the
a a whole octave below that so there we
go
couple more that one's too easy let's
try this one so this one second space
bass clef and this one is a C is it
middle C absolutely not because middle C
is above there this one's going to be a
whole octave below middle C just right
there moving right along
let's see a good one to pick let's do
this one only a couple more let's say
two more so this one is a little bit
different this is one of the overlaps
I'm talking about this could have this
note could actually have been written on
the treble clef but think about where
treble clef are not trouble I think
about where middle C is for this one
it'll see is that line right below the
note so this note is going to actually
be one above middle C so that is great D
right there so let's see here
last one so third line up from the
bottom bass clef remember G B D and this
D obviously isn't in the place we just
played it so here's it'll seize up here
and it's actually going to be below
middle C not too far down there it's
just going to be the first D below
middle C which will be right
and there you have it if you have any

maybe just giving you more practice but
I highly suggest you practice this on
your own the better you are at reading
notes and finding them on the keyboard
you'll be much better off when we start
doing the actual musical examples which
are pretty soon to come probably next
couple lessons so there you have it an
explanation of how to find these bass
clef notes on the keyboard ok so that's
the conclusion of lesson 4 a little
recap of what we talked about this
lesson we talked about all we really
talked about was finding notes on the
treble clef and bass clef on and off the
staff and I showed you how to find those
notes actually on the keyboard
usually in relation to middle C or a
relation to a note that you are already
familiar with so lesson 5 we're going to
be talking about note durations again
I'm just going to show you real quick
how to play those on the piano real
quick and easy explanation and the other
thing we're going to talk about which is
easy but kind of important is how to get
our hands positioned correctly on the
