History

• Mancherial District was created from the previous Adilabad District. Geographically, it is bordered by Asifabad (Komuram Bheem), Adilabad, Nirmal, Jagtial, Peddapalli, Bhoopalapally districts, and the state of Maharashtra.
• This district comprises 18 mandals and two Revenue Divisions - Mancherial and Bellampalli, with the district headquarters situated in Mancherial town.
• Mancherial has efficient road and rail connectivity. It is classified as an A category station in the Secunderabad division, with Bellampalli also serving as a significant railway station. The district is well-served by SH1, NH63, and the Nagpur highway, ensuring strong transportation links. Additionally, there is an RTC depot in Mancherial.
• The rivers Godavari and Pranahita flow through the district, with paddy cultivation being a prominent agricultural activity.
• Noteworthy industries in the region include the Singareni Collieries, Jaipur Thermal Power Plant, private cement manufacturers, and ceramics factories. The ceramic pipe industry, the largest in the country, adds further economic value to the region.

Gandhari Khilla

• Gandhari Khilla, also known as Gandhari Kota, stands as a hill fort situated close to Bokkalagutta in the Mandamarri Mandal of the Mancherial district within Telangana, a state in southern India.
• Perched atop sandstone hills, this fort was constructed amidst dense forests abundant with various plant species, including valuable medicinal herbs. Due to incomplete excavation efforts, portions of the fort remain ensconced by the forest cover.
• Annually, the Mahankali Jatara, a festive celebration, garners the participation of over 10,000 individuals. Additionally, every two years, the Gandhari Maisamma Jatra is conducted within the temple premises of Gandhari Fort, drawing tribal communities from the Vindhya region, notably Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh, located on the opposite bank.
