Muse - Time is Running Out Acoustic Guitar Lesson Video Lecture | Guitar: Become a Pro (English) - Music

all right today we're going to learn how
to play the acoustic version of muses
classic rock song time is running out
now this is the acoustic rendition I did
with aundrea which if you haven't heard
that that's one listen to that first I'm
going to link you below because she is
an amazing singer and in a lot of ways
is kind of like the female slightly
taller version of Matt Bellamy
so the way we did it we had a capo 2nd
fret but I'm just going to do it an open
position like it is in the original and
this isn't such a huge departure from
the original song so if you want to plug
this in and rock it out it'll sound
pretty much just like time is running
out but basically we're going to start
with the intro which is also the verse
and it's for different parts it's going
to sound like this ok so when I say four
parts the first part is going to be on
the a string it's going to be open a and
3a right so an A and to an e so this is
getting representative of a a minor
chord in fact what she's playing she's
just kind of chugging in in a minor
right and the riff is going
now you'll notice it maybe in the intro
when she's not singing I'm playing it
more sustained which means I'm just
hitting and then when she's singing over
it it's more of like a a palm-muted
thing alright because when you palm you
you kind of stay out of the singers way
and you can hear the vocals a little
better I think I'm jamming missing
d--ation right so basically it's very
rhythmic it's just cue notes but the
rhythm is so important so we've got a
eh-eh-eh-eh
beam's so it's almost kind of like
dynamically a three three and two one
two three one two three one two is a
good way to think about it now the next
part is going to be this is going to be
sliding I slide from the fifth fret to
the seventh fret this is a B and it's
into a minor third so this is
representative of a P minor chord if you
want to display the court to be a minor
C minor the riff that goes over that B
minor is really similar 7 e 5 a then you
walk it down from 5 to 10 so 1 2 3 1 2 3
4 5 it's kind of like the access right
there right so we've got the next part
of super easy this is just an octave E
so it's the open E string 2 3 1 2 3 1 2
just like the same kind of dynamics in
that first part so open e and 7 and
which is another here octave you could
easily play it like this
I kinda like doing here because it's
kind of where I came from and then we're
going to go so again this is would be
like a ski cord so the cords be a minor
B minor and then huh - is G and the way
we're playing this riff lies is just
power chords one one five one one one
five one I got a one two five to the
power four tours da da
so all four parts first part second in
kind of inspect those make a little bit
a little bit different kind of like when
I go from the B minor type run I kind of
maybe swing it a little bit or trouble
like kinda like down up moving a lot of
ways you can play it but that's just
going to be the intro in the verse I'm
going to take that all the way into I
guess we'll call it the pre-chorus
sounds like this

you go basically this is really heavily
pawn music you at the escort 3d in one
beer and this is all Paul meter to get
then we're going to start it with your
pointer finger off

okay so the first three are all I can
ask for with an open B string 1 2 3 and
C and then the open strings that two
times and then groups of two backing off
from a 3 B 2 1 video open da 1 2 1 2 1 2
so half open 1 2 1 2 1 2 2 a minor chord
same thing we did with the F we just
open up that B string 1 2 3 1 2 3 4 5 1
2 same things we're going we're jumping
back and forth between athletes and open
drink back walking backwards to another
a minor
opening strength that
naps again a minor the last time I'm
just kind of sliding it's really similar
thing it's all open strangers and again
I'm really only kind of strumming the D
G and B strings for the most part but
I'm sliding from three to five right
before the chorus and I think this kind
of inflected kind of builds a little bit
of a little bit of tension or whatever
just kind of dynamic into the chorus
right of course really easy just four
chords an ass major to a G major so I'm
just kind of going down to fret and I'm
playing it like Barford style but this
is acoustic I don't like to use Barre
chords as much because I have such
delicate hands I try to get just a
little four strings or the two bars
slide it down into a genius a minor
and now it's not a fully minor Kaif I'm
actually kind of leaving that feed
string open so I'm getting an a minor 7
a 7 B 5 G open beer kind of adding that
be kinda adds a little bit of a a little
bit of flavor to it right cue a C major
chord but with the G in the root so I've
got 3 e3 a QD open G one beer and this
is just kind of like a like a straight
chug I guess if you want to call it
because such a great thing about Muse
when my favorite bands ever is the way
they kind of rhythmically changed parts
and stuff like that so I think this is
kind of like an example of how you can
kind of go from like a one two three one
two three four or five type pattern and
a more like this like straight Rock jug

the only thing the happens at the end
instead of going to that fee chord after
the a minor we go to the at the G you
playing the bar forts maybe make it more
exciting or you can play them just as
the power chords before back into the
intro so basically yes intro verse of
the same thing you just kind of run
through that a few times
oh you can palm eat it I think it sounds
awesome all muted and then adding maybe
opening that up a little bit as it goes
three and kind of build a dynamic and
then it appears and then the straight on
rock guy so there it is definitely let
