Ans. The activity which was going on in the class was discussion.

Ans. The student named Jane was the quiet one in the class.

4. How do you interact in class during discussions? Do you participate or remain quiet?
Ans. I don’t like to be quiet. I diligently participate in class discussions.
1. Choose two friends in your class who are very different from each other. Use the clues in the box to describe their nature. You may also add your own words to describe them.
Ans. Ajay and Mohan are two friends studying in the same class. Their nature is different from each other. Ajay is very naughty and careless whereas Mohan is very friendly and helpful. Ajay is talkative and talks even during class whereas Mohan is just the opposite of him. He is quiet, cheerful, and very studious. Mohan is also very regular in his work.
1. What is discussion? To discuss means to talk together or decide something. When you do this, you are taking part in a discussion.
Read the sentences below. They tell us what happens in a discussion.
Note the points you might discuss before planning a visit to the park.
(i) Choose a day and time.
(ii) What are things to bring to play?
(iii) Assign duties.
(iv) Things to eat.
Look at the picture in the poem. Imagine and write what the discussion in the class is about.
Ans. The teacher has asked students to discuss about the names of all the states of our country. Then, students have to talk about the different cultures and customs of all the states.
2. Fill in the grid given below by assigning qualities to each person. Some clues are given here to help you.

1. Find one story of bravery about a child. You can search for the story by talking to older people or watching a TV program or a film. Write down the story. Also, mention its source. Narrate the story to the class. Which story did you like the best? Write down your reasons.
Ans. I have read the following story of a brave boy. Karim was a shepherd boy. He used to graze his sheep and goats outside his village near the railway track. One day he found a few persons damaging the railway track. He hid and watched them. When those men had gone, he came to the track. A train was expected to come in about half an hour. He knew that there would be a serious accident. He wanted to hit upon their plan. He went about half a kilometre up the track. He stood at the edge of the track. When the train became visible he began to wave his Red bag. The driver applied brakes. The train stopped. He saved the train and its passengers. He also told police about the men who had damaged the track. They were terrorists, who then got arrested. Karim was rewarded. He was given a free school education. I like the story because Karim saved hundreds of lives through his presence of mind.
2. Read Sheela’s notice. Discuss the questions that follow:
(a) Who was to meet?
Ans. The Drama Committee was to meet.
(b) When were they to meet?
Ans. They were to meet on Monday at 2’o clock.
(c) Where were they to meet?
Ans. They were meeting in the classroom.
(d) What were they to do?
Ans. They were to plan a play for their Annual Day.
