Emblem

The National Emblem of India is derived from the Lion Capital of Ashoka, which was originally located in Sarnath, near Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh.

Animal

The Tiger, known scientifically as Panthera tigris, is designated as the National Animal of India. It represents the rich wildlife heritage of the country and is renowned for its distinctive stripes.

Bird

The Peacock (Pavo cristatus) is the National Bird of India. It symbolizes beauty and grace, reflecting the country's rich natural heritage.

Flag

The National Flag features three horizontal bands of color: deep saffron (kesari) on the top, white in the middle, and dark green at the bottom. In the center of the flag is a blue wheel, called the Ashoka Chakra, with 24 spokes.

Fruit

The Mango (Mangifera indica) is the National Fruit of India. It has been grown and cherished in India for centuries.

Tree

The Banyan Tree (Ficus bengalensis) is recognized as the National Tree of India. This majestic tree is notable for its expansive trunk and widespread canopy.

Sport

Field Hockey is historically associated with India, having earned eight Olympic medals. Despite its prominence, the Home Ministry has clarified that no sport has been officially designated as the National Sport.

Anthem

The National Anthem, "Jana-Gana-Mana," was originally composed in Bengali by Rabindranath Tagore and is now adopted in its Hindi version.

India adopted the National Calendar based on the Saka Era on 22nd March 1957. It starts with the month of Chaitra and follows a standard year of 365 days.
