The world is a beautiful place to live in. At the same time it is also filled with dangers. Dangers are situations or things which can hurt us. We should be aware of the dangers around us and learn to be careful and avoid them. Staying away from dangers is being safe.

Safety At Home

Following a few simple safety rules can keep us safe at home.

• Don't play with fire or fireworks by yourself. Only use matches when an adult is with you, and always put them out before throwing them away.
• Never touch a plug with your fingers, and don't touch wires if they look broken. Tell a grown-up if you see anything wrong with them.
• Be careful in the kitchen, especially around the stove and hot pots. Don't go near the stove when it's on.
• Sharp things like knives and scissors can hurt you, so use them carefully and don't play with them.
• Don't taste anything unless you're sure it's safe. Some things, like medicine, can make you sick if you eat them.

If you behave responsibly in school and follow the rules, you can avoid accidents.

• Don't run around or climb on desks in class. Desks have sharp corners that can hurt you.
• Be careful on stairs. Don't run or push anyone. Falling on stairs can really hurt.
• When you're in the science room, always ask your teacher before touching, tasting, or smelling anything.
• Don't use blades, like for sharpening pencils. They're not safe for you to use.

• Always follow the rules of a game. 
• Rules are for our safety and for us to enjoy the game.
• Play the games in the right spirit, to reduce accidents and enjoy more.

Safety On The Road

• Don't play on the roads. It's very dangerous.
• Walk on the footpath if there's one. If not, walk on the side and watch out for cars.
• If you ride a bike, stay on the left side of the road. Use your hand to show when you're turning. If you're in a car, wear your seatbelt.
• Only cross the road at the zebra crossing. Look right, left, and right again before crossing. Be extra careful if there's no zebra crossing.
• Follow the traffic lights. Green means go, red means stop, and yellow means get ready.
• Stand in line when getting on a bus. It helps prevent accidents.
• Never try to get on or off a bus while it's moving. It's very dangerous.

First Aid

Sometimes, accidents happen even when we are careful. Never panic in such a situation. You can help the injured person by following some simple rules. The first help that an injured person needs is called first aid.

• Immediately try to find an adult to help you.
• Never allow people to crowd around the injured person.
• Do not move the injured person. If he or she has broken a bone, this can cause more damage.
• Make the injured person sit or lie down.
• If a wound is bleeding, wash it with clean water.
• Tie a clean bandage or handkerchief around the wound to stop the bleeding.
• If someone has a burn, put the burnt area under a cold water tap.

Home Is Best

A house gives us shelter from the weather, animals and enemies. To live a healthy life, certain things are important. Our house should be built and kept in such a way that we get these important things.

A Good Home

• Sunlight is good for us because it kills germs. We should have windows where sunlight can come in.
• Fresh air is important for us to breathe. We breathe out dirty air, so we need windows and vents for fresh air. Trees and plants around our house help keep the air clean too.
• Verandas or balconies are nice because they let in sunlight and fresh air.
• Putting wire nets on doors and windows keeps bugs like flies and mosquitoes out while still letting air and sunlight in.
• Keeping our house clean is really important. Bathrooms need to be clean and dry, so we need a good system to take away dirty water.
• We shouldn't let dirty water or garbage collect anywhere in or around the house because it makes germs and bugs grow.

Care of The House

• Germs like to hang out in the kitchen, toilets, and garbage bins. That's why we need to clean them well every day.
• We should also clean the rest of the house every day, like sweeping and keeping things tidy.
• Flies and cockroaches can make us sick, especially if they get into the kitchen. So, always keep food covered and try to keep them away.
• Letting fresh air and sunlight into the kitchen and toilets is good because it helps keep them clean.
• Keep garbage bins covered so that bugs and bad smells stay inside.
