JEE Main is the national-level, engineering entrance exam for admission into most of the engineering colleges across the country. Every year around 14-15 lakh students appear for JEE Main. All the NITs and IIITs accept JEE Main score for student intake. This is one of the most popular entrance exams in India. A vast majority of students find JEE Main to be tough and difficult to crack. The number of students appearing for JEE Main increases each year, which also increases the competition. In order to crack JEE Main and get into India’s top engineering colleges, a student requires determination, perseverance and planning.

JEE Main is also the qualifying exam for JEE Advanced. IITs do not accept JEE Main score and, hence, students willing to enrol for IITs will also have to appear for JEE Advanced. A student will be allowed to appear for JEE Advanced only if he clears the JEE Main cut off. The exam is conducted in two modes: Online and Offline.

JEE Main has two papers:

Paper 1 – B.Tech/Engineering
Paper 2 – B.Arch/Architecture.

Students preparing for Engineering should opt for Paper 1 and those preparing for Architecture should opt for Paper 2.

JEE Main 2018 Important Dates

JEE Main 2018 Application Form:

JEE Main Application Form 2018 will most likely be accessible from the month of November 2017.
Instructions:
Please read the instructions, procedure and information bulletin carefully before you start filling the Application Form.

1. You can apply for JEE Main 2018 online only through the official website of JEE Main.
2. Please ensure your eligibility as per the criteria laid down for JEE Main, JEE Advanced and participating State Institutions (as applicable).
3. Aadhar card is mandatory.
4. You are allowed to submit only one Application Form. Multiple applications of a candidate are liable to be rejected.
5. Selection of date/slot of Computer Based Examination of Paper – 1:
   If you have opted for Computer Based Examination of Paper – 1, you should select the date/slot after payment of the Examination Fee. If you do not select the date/slot, you will be allotted the date/slot on random basis depending upon availability.

Steps to fill the Application Form:

Step 1: Fill the Online Application Form, choose your Password and note down the system-generated Application Number.

You should supply all the details while filling the Online Application Form and you are also required to choose PASSWORD and Security Question and enter your answer to the same. After successful submission of the data, an Application Number will be generated and it will be used to complete the remaining steps of the Application Form and also for all future correspondence. For subsequent logins, you will be able to login directly with your respective system-generated Application Number and chosen Password.

Step 2: Upload scanned images of Photograph and Signature:

1. The scanned images of photograph and signature should be in jpg/jpeg format only.
2. Size of the photo image must be greater than 4 KB and less than 40 KB.
3. Size of the signature image must be greater than 1 KB and less than 30 KB.
4. Dimension of photograph image should be 3.5 cm(width) x 4.5 cm(Height) only.
5. Dimension of signature image should be 3.5 cm(length) x 1.5 cm(Height) only.

NOTE: You will be able to modify/correct the particulars before the payment of fees. Once the payment of fee has been made/e-challan downloaded, your particulars cannot be edited.

Step 3: Pay Examination Fee by debit/credit card or e-challan of Syndicate/Canara/ICICI/HDFC Bank

Application Form Fees for JEE Main 2018:

Note: In case the examination fee is paid through credit/debit cards, you will need to pay an additional processing charge as follows:

1. Credit Card: 1.20% of the examination fee plus the service tax as applicable.
2. Debit Card: 0.75% + taxes for examination fee up to Rs. 2000 and 1% + taxes for examination fee more than Rs. 2000.
3. Application fee once paid will not be refunded (full or partial) under any circumstances.
   
   JEE Main 2018 Eligibility Criteria

1. Age:

The date of birth of the candidate should be on or after 1st October 1993.
In case of SC/ST/OBC category, the age limit is relaxed for 5 years.

2. Number of Attempts and Year of Passing:

A candidate should have cleared his/her class 12 or other qualifying exam in the year 2016, 2017 or appearing in 2018.
A candidate is allowed a maximum of 3 consecutive attempts for JEE Main. If you have given the JEE twice and have also skipped a year without giving the JEE, you are not eligible for JEE Main 2018.

3. Marks in Qualifying Exams:

The candidate should get at least 75% in class 12th examination or should be in the top 20 percentile in their respective boards.

4. Qualifying Board Exam (or equivalent exam):

The JEE Main accepts all boards under Association of Indian Universities which includes the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) as well. Diplomas recognized by the All India Council for Technical Education also make a candidate eligible for the JEE Main.
Note: If you have given the first attempt of your 12th board exam in 2015, but have repeated the exam to pass in 2016, you are not eligible for JEE Main 2018.

JEE Main 2018 Paper Pattern:

Paper 1 (JEE Main Engineering Pattern)

1. One correct answer will award you 4 marks and every incorrect answer will lead to a deduction of ¼ marks.
2. No marks will be deducted for questions left unattempted.
3. 3 hours would be allotted for paper completion
4. Each question can have only one answer; marking multiple answers will be considered as an incorrect answer and ¼ marks will be deducted.

JEE Main Admit Card 2018:

The JEE Main 2018 hall ticket/admit Card will be released tentatively in March 2018 on the official website.
Follow these steps to download your admit card:

1. Visit the official website.
2. On the homepage, click on ‘Admit card’.
3. Enter application number and password.
4. Click on submit button.
5. The admit card will appear on the screen.
6. Download/Take a print out and carry to the examination.

JEE Main 2018 Counselling

Counselling procedure will be conducted on the basis of the merit list. The tentative dates for the counselling would be in the first week of July 2018. The counselling is handled by the JoSAA and the entire process is divided in multiple rounds. Each round will have a separate list of selected candidates.
