Q. Anita Bajaj comes across the following article in ‘The Tribune’ and feels concerned about the Earth being destroyed by various pollutants. After reading the article she decides to create awareness amongst the children of her school. She prepares a speech on ‘Environmental Pollution’ highlighting the effects of it and making suggestions.

‘PLEASE, LET THE EARTH BREATHE’
Our country is not alone and helpless in combating its massive environmental problems. Basically, the four main issues of environmental conservation that need to be looked into are: air quality, water quality, community, land regeneration and bio-diversity conservation.

Ans.
Good Morning, everyone!
I stand before you to speak on the topic ‘Please, Let the Earth Breathe’ “The most dangerous animal on earth is man. These are the words written in a zoo in Lusaka” and it is true. Man should be put in cages and not these helpless animals.’ When we call Earth our mother, why do we forget that as a living being, she needs to breathe and breathe well? She, who gives fresh and clean air to all of us, is feeling choked with smoke, dirt and toxic chemicals all  the more because we have chopped down trees and destroyed rain forests.
How would we feel if someone chokes our lungs, blocks our arteries and chops them down? Won’t we die? Isn’t it the same with our Earth when we cut down its lungs—the rain forests, and choke it with harmful gases and smoke.
All of us have turned a blind eye to  melting polar ice and global warming. How long will we try its patience before she bogs down under the burden of burgeoning population, unrestricted urbanisation, loss of forest cover and the depletion of its bio-diversity?
It is we who have defiled our holy Earth. We only must find a solution to all its ills. The world community needs to cut across political boundaries for global action to control the gigantic problem of global pollution. The need of the hour is to keep the quality of air, water and land environment free from pollution. The rich and diverse flora and fauna of the Earth must be preserved at any cost. Otherwise we, and our very Mother Earth will cease to exist.

Thank You
