of hearing so what are we going to
discuss in range of hearing so the first
of all let us see what does range of
hearing so let us see what actually is
range of hearing so the range of
frequency of sound which is audible to a
living being so every meeting organisms
have different range of hearing for
example when I talk of human beings
human beings have a specific range of
hearing that means we are able to hear
only certain sounds which fall in a
certain frequency range so that
frequency range is known as the range of
hearing similarly for different animals
let it be dogs or elephants or cats or I
know sellers every different category of
meaning or beings have a specific range
of frequencies which they can hear so
that range of frequency is known as the
range of hearing so different leading
organisms have different range of
hearing now the categories of sounds are
based on frequencies so that sounds with
frequencies below 20 Hertz are known as
infrasound the term infra is used
generally for values which are known so
frequencies below 20 Hertz are known as
infrasonic frequencies above 20 kilo
Hertz
what is 20 kilo Hertz 20 kilo Hertz
would mean 20,000 Hertz because 1 kilo
Hertz is thousand words so any sound of
frequency less than 20 Hertz is
infrasound and any sound with frequency
greater than 20,000 Hertz is ultra sound
right so these are the two terminologies
which we will be using based on the
frequency on of something so now let us
look at the range of hearing for
different living organisms so now when
we consider let us first consider the

the range of hearing is 20 Hertz to 20
kilo Hertz so the normal range of
hearing is from 20 Hertz to 20 kilo
Hertz this is the range of hearing for
human beings but it is saying that in
children in case of children the upper

children can hear up to 25 kilo Hertz
that means they can even hear certain
frequencies which are greater than 20
kilo watts so certain ultrasounds also
they can hear but as the age increases
the efficiency of hearing decreases so
for normal adults the upper limit is up
to 20 kilo Hertz again when people grow
even older that means in your old age it
is seen that the range of hearing even
decreases below 20 kilo Hertz so they
are not even able to hear the normal
sounds also because the functioning of
their hear the efficiency everything
decreases also with increasing age the
range of hearing decreases let us look
at other organisms for example dogs even
dogs can also hear sounds up to 25 kilo
watts when you consider certain living
beings like the rhinoceros or the whale
or the elephants all of them can hear
infrasound that means they can hear
sound as low as five words or something
so they can hear those and it sounds a
very low frequencies so these are some
of the animals which can hear our

frequencies similarly there are the
categories of animals like bats or
dolphins or rats they can hear sounds of
extremely high frequencies that mean
they can hear ultrasounds right so this
is what we mean by range of hearing that
means different leaving organisms will
have different range of frequencies
