Introduction

The Telangana government has designated four symbols for the new State:

• The State Bird, known as Palapitta (Indian Roller or Blue Jay).
• The State Animal, referred to as Jinka (Deer).
• The State Tree, named Jammi Chettu (Prosopis Cineraria).
• The State Flower, recognized as Tangedu (Tanner’s Cassia).

These emblematic choices are a reflection of Telangana's culture and tradition. Three of these symbols - Tangedu flowers, Blue Jay, and Jammi Chettu - are closely associated with popular festivals such as Batukamma and Dasara. Tangedu flowers are utilized in the arrangement of Batukammas, sighting the Blue Jay during Dasara is considered auspicious, and people worship the Jammi Chettu on that day.

State Symbols

Palapitta

• According to legend, Lord Rama sighted the Palapitta before his conquest of Lanka, which led to the victory over Ravana. 
• The Palapitta symbolizes victory and has been selected to represent Telangana's path to triumph.

Jinka

• The deer holds a significant place in Indian history, including references in the epic Ramayana.
• Known for its grace, the deer can thrive even in small forests, reflecting the sensitivity and innocence cherished by the people of Telangana.

Jammi Chettu

• The Jammi Chettu, or Shami Tree, holds mythological importance as it was worshipped by the Pandavas before their victory over the Kauravas. 
• Telangana seeks the blessings of the Jammi Chettu to overcome challenges and achieve success.

Tangedu Flower

• The Tangedu flower, commonly used during the Batukamma festival by women, is a fitting choice for the state flower. 
• Its association with the festival represents the cultural richness and traditions of Telangana.
