Key Points of the Story
Detailed Summary
In this chapter, we meet two brothers, Bhaiya and Munna, who live together in a hostel. Bhaiya, the older brother, is very focused on his studies, while Munna, the younger brother, loves to play and draw. One day, while sitting at their study table, Bhaiya asks Munna about what he is doing. Munna tells him that he is drawing pictures of birds and animals. Bhaiya then questions Munna about when he will start studying. Munna, being only nine years old, expresses his confusion about why Bhaiya spends so much time reading and writing. Bhaiya explains that he is working hard to build a strong foundation in education, just like a sturdy building needs a solid base. He emphasizes the importance of studying, especially subjects like English, which require a lot of effort to master.
Munna feels that Bhaiya is too strict and wonders why he should not have fun and play instead. Bhaiya scolds Munna for playing too much and wasting their father's money. Munna feels sad and even thinks about running away. To help Munna study better, Bhaiya decides to create a timetable for him, detailing what he should do every hour of the day. This schedule includes time for studying subjects like English, Maths, and History, and even time for play. However, when Munna asks when he can play, Bhaiya seems to think that play is not important.
As the story continues, we learn that despite Bhaiya's hard work, he fails his exams, while Munna passes and even tops his class. This makes Bhaiya feel upset, but Munna is proud of his success. However, Bhaiya reminds Munna not to be too proud, as passing one exam does not mean he can ignore studying. Bhaiya explains that in higher classes, subjects will become more challenging, and without hard work, it will be difficult to succeed.
Eventually, Munna learns that their parents, especially their father, have valuable life experiences that are just as important as academic knowledge. Munna realizes that while he enjoys playing, he also has responsibilities towards his brother. The chapter ends with a touching moment where Munna promises to care for Bhaiya and understands the importance of both studying and looking after each other as brothers.
