Detailed Summary

In the story, Nawab Jung Bahadur Rangile, once a great nobleman, now lives a humble life with his wife, Begum Rangili, in a small house. Despite his past grandeur, he now tells exaggerated stories to children to feel important.
One day, his friend Sher Singh informs him that their village has been robbed by the notorious bandit Bhootnath. The village chief, Pukar Singh, appoints Nawab Rangile to capture Bhootnath, offering a prize of ten thousand rupees. Though initially scared, Nawab Rangile agrees bravely.
As night falls, Nawab Rangile, terrified, tries to hide under his bed. Sher Singh convinces him to face his fears and join the villagers in the forest. In the forest, Nawab Rangile climbs a tree to hide, only to find Bhootnath asleep there. After a conversation, they decide to return home together.
Nawab Rangile invites Bhootnath for dinner, unaware of his true identity. Begum Rangili suspects Bhootnath and decides to drug him using sleeping pills mixed in the food. Despite her attempts to signal Nawab Rangile, he innocently serves the drugged food to Bhootnath and falls asleep himself.
Bhootnath, taking advantage of the situation, steals the Begum's jewelry and leaves unnoticed. The next morning, Nawab Rangile and Begum Rangili wake up to find the theft, realizing their mistake.
