Topsy-Turvy Land Summary Class 5 English Marigold Poem 7

Topsy turvy land is a beautiful humorous poem by H.E Wilkinson. In this poem, the poet takes us to a land where everything is the opposite of than real world. 

Paragraph 1

The people walk upon their heads, 
The sea is made of sand, 
The children go to school by night, 
In Topsy-turvy Land. 

Summary: The first part of the poem draws the picture of the topsy turvy land where people do not walk by their feet but rather walk on their heads. The sea there is made of sand and not water. The children go to school at night instead of the morning in the topsy turvy land.

The front-door step is at the back, 
You're walking when you stand, 
You wear your hat upon your feet, 
In Topsy-turvy Land. 

Summary: The second part of the poem adds further to the picture of the topsy turvy land. The front doorstep is at the back rather than the front. The people there walk when they stand. The hat is worn on the feet and not on the head.

And buses on the sea you'll meet, 
While pleasure boats are planned, 
To travel up and down the streets 
Of Topsy-turvy Land. 

Summary: The third part of the poem mentions that buses on the topsy turvy land ride on boats which provide pleasure to the people by riding up and down the streets of the topsy turvy land.

You pay for what you never get, 
I think it must be grand, 
For when you go you're coming back, 
In Topsy-turvy Land. 

Summary: The last and final part of the poem ends the poem by adding some more features. People over there buy things but do not pay for it. It is a grand and humorous experience where people go when they are really coming back.
