To scare away the bigger fish, some small fish drink up a lot of water, swell up and look big
We can draw different types of fishes by combining different shapes altogether as shown in the picture below.
Out on the sea, fishermen look for a place where they hope to find a good catch of fish. There they spread their nets. They will have to wait for many hours for the fish to come into their nets.
Example 1: A log boat travels 4 km in one hour . How much time will it take to go 12 km?
Sol: Time taken by the boat to cover 4 km = 1 hour
Time taken by the boat to cover 12km (4km x 3) = 1 x 3 = 3 hours
Different Types of Boats
Some very big machine boats (trawlers) are also used by fishermen.
Fishermen in the smaller boats always let the baby fish pass through their nets to go back into the sea. They choose a net size in such a way that only the grown up fish are caught.
For hundreds of years fishermen have cared for the sea and its fishes and fished only a little to eat and sell.
They say that if trawlers catch thousands of kilograms of fish everyday, there will be no fish left in the sea.
Fishes are sold in the fish market. Many boats bring back good catches. The fisher women shout out their prices to the buyers.
Following is the list of fisherwomen who sell a specific type of fish ,
Questions based on the table given above,
Example 1: Suppose Floramma sells 10 kg of prawns in a day. How much money did she get for that?
Sol: Cost of 1 kg of prawns sold by Floramma = Rs 150
Cost of 10 kg of prawns sold by Floramma = Rs 150 x 10 = Rs 1500
Example 2: How much Kgs of squids can gracy can sell for Rs 500?
Sol: As we can see in the table ,Gracy sells 1 kg of squids for Rs 50
So, Amount of squids sold in Rs 50 = 1 kg
Amount of squids sold in Rs 500 = = 10 kg
Example 3: Basheer has Rs 100. He spends one-fourth of the total money on squid. How many kilograms of squid did he buy?
Sol: Basheer has Rs 100
Money spent on squidCost of 1 kg of squid = Rs 50
Money spent by Basheer on squid = Rs 25
Amount of squids he bought
This is a bank made by twenty fisher women. Each one of them saves Rs 25 every month and puts it in the bank. If someone needs money to buy net, boat etc. they take loan from the bank and later return it with interest.
Example 1: The meeting of the Meenkar Bank has just begun. Fazila is the President. 20 fisherwomen have made their own bank. Each saves Rs 25 every month and puts it in the bank. How much money does the group collect each month?
Sol: As mentioned, There is a group of 20 fisherwomen, each saves Rs 25 per month.
so, Total amount saved by the group (20 women) = 20 x Rs 25 = Rs 500
Example 2: The table for the cost of each item and the number of items they want to buy for the factory is given below.
(a) Total cost to set up the factory ?
(b) When fresh fish Is dried, it becomes l /3 its weight. In one month they plan to dry 6000 kg of fresh fish. How much dried fish will they get In a month?
Sol:
(a) Total cost to set up the factory = Rs 3000 + Rs 40000 + Rs 4000 + Rs 6000 + Rs 1500 = Rs 54,500
(b) Dried fish they will get in a month = 6000 kg /3 = 2000 kg
