  • Conversion: 1 km = 1000 m

  • 7 km = 7 × 1000 = 7000 m

Q2: A rope is 900 cm long. If cut into 15 equal pieces, the length of each piece is: (1 Mark)

(d) 600 m
Sol: (b) 60 cm

  • Total length = 900 cm

  • Number of pieces = 15

  • Length of each piece = 900 ÷ 15 = 60 cm

Q3: A bamboo pole is 420 cm long. What is its length in metres? (1 Mark)

  • Conversion: 1 m = 100 cm

  • Length in metres = 420 ÷ 100 = 4.2 m

Q4: A train is 480 m long. What is its length in kilometers? (1 Mark)

  • Conversion: 1 km = 1000 m

  • Length in km = 480 ÷ 1000 = 0.48 km

Q5: A ribbon is 54 m long. If each piece is 6 m long, how many pieces can be cut? (1 Mark)

Sol: (c) 9

  • Total length = 54 m

  • Length of each piece = 6 m

  • Number of pieces = 54 ÷ 6 = 9

Q6: A ribbon is 144 m long. It is cut into 12 equal pieces. What is the length of each piece? (2 Marks)

Sol:
144 ÷ 12 = 12 m
Each piece = 12 m

Q7: A man walks 4 km every day. How many kilometers will he walk in 20 days? (2 Marks)​​​

Sol:
4 × 20 = 80 km
= 80 km

Q8: A road between two villages is 9 km 600 m long. Out of this, workers have repaired 7 km 200 m. How much road is still left to repair?  (2 Marks)

Sol:
9 km 600 m = 9600 m
7 km 200 m = 7200 m
Remaining = 9600 – 7200 = 2400 m = 2 km 400 m

Road left = 2 km 400 m

Q9: A cloth merchant bought a roll of cloth 60 m long. He sold 18 m 50 cm to one customer and 21 m 25 cm to another. How much cloth is left with him?  (3 Marks)​​​​

Sol:
Total = 60 m
Sold = 18.50 + 21.25 = 39.75 m
Remaining = 60 – 39.75 = 20.25 m

= 20 m 25 cm left

Q10: The distance from a school to the bus stand is 3 km 750 m. The bus travels this distance in the morning and returns in the afternoon. What is the total distance covered by the bus in a day?   (3 Marks)

Sol:
3 km 750 m = 3750 m
Twice = 3750 × 2 = 7500 m = 7 km 500 m

= 7 km 500 m

Q11: The distance from a playground to the library is 2 km 600 m. A boy goes to the library and returns back to the playground twice in a day. What is the total distance he covers?   (3 Marks)

Sol:
2 km 600 m = 2600 m
One round trip = 2600 × 2 = 5200 m
Two trips = 5200 × 2 = 10,400 m = 10 km 400 m

= 10 km 400 m

(i) 85 mm = 85 ÷ 10 = 8.5 cm
(ii) 45 dm = 45 × 10 = 450 cm
(iii) 7 cm + (6 ÷ 10) cm = 7.6 cm
(iv) 25 km = 25 × 100,000 = 2,500,000 cm
(v) 28 m = 28 × 100 = 2800 cm
(vi) 35 ÷ 1000 = 0.035 km
(vii) 72 hm = 72 × 100 = 7200 m = 7.2 km
(viii) 250 dam = 250 × 10 = 2500 m = 2.5 km
