Q11: To qualify for a gaming contest, Sam needs at least 2,000 points. He already scored 725 points in round 1 and 968 points in round 2. How many more points does he need to qualify?  (3 Marks)

Ans:
Total points required to qualify = 2000
Points Sam has = 725 + 968 = 1693
Points still needed = 2000 – 1693 = 307
Sam needs 307 more points to qualify.

Q12: There are 2,468 animals in a barn. There are 812 goats, 679 cows, and the rest are horses. If 127 horses were sold, how many horses are left in the barn?  (5 Marks)

Ans:
Total animals = 2,468
Goats = 812
Cows = 679

First find animals that are not horses:
812 + 679 = 1,491

So number of horses = total − (goats + cows)
= 2,468 − 1,491 = 977 horses initially.

Horses sold = 127

Horses left = 977 − 127 = 850

850 horses remain in the barn.

Q13: I am a 5-digit number. My tens digit is 3. My ones and hundreds digit are thrice the tens digit. My thousands digit is the sum of the ones and tens digit. My ten-thousands digit is the difference between the thousands and ones digit. What number am 'I'?  (5 Marks)

Ans:
Tens digit = 3
∴ Ones digit = 3 × 3 = 9
Hundreds digit = 3 × 3 = 9
Thousands digit = 9 + 3 = 12 → take only the unit digit = 2
Ten-thousands digit = 2 – 9 = -7 → since digits cannot be negative, take the positive difference = 7
