Wanaparthy District Formation

• Wanaparthy District was established as per the Districts Reorganization Act of 2016, following the division of Telangana State. Initially, Wanaparthy Revenue Division consisted of 8 Mandals within Mahabubnagar District. 
• Subsequently, Madanapuram, Revally, Chinnambavi, and Srirangapur Mandals were newly formed by reorganizing Atmakur, Amarchintha, and Narva Mandals from Narayanpet Division of the former Mahbubnagar District. Currently, the district comprises 14 Mandals.

• Wanaparthy District, a recent formation separated from the erstwhile Mahabubnagar District, spans an area of 2164.59 Sq.km. The total population, as recorded in the 2011 Census, stands at 577758 individuals, with 92288 residing in urban areas and 485470 in rural regions. 
• The population density averages 267 per Sq.km. About 84.03% of the population resides in rural areas, contrasting with the 15.97% in urban regions. Scheduled castes constitute 16.13% of the population, while scheduled tribes make up 7.97%. Notably, Wanaparthy town emerges as the largest urban center in the District. 
• The overall literacy rate, according to the 2011 census, is 55.67%, with male literacy at 65.73% and female literacy at 45.27%.

• Kothakota and Thippadampally are renowned for producing silk sarees.
• Abundance of Quartz, Feldspar, Limestone & Laterite in Pangal and Wanaparthy Mandals.
• SSV Spinners Pvt. Ltd. in Peddamandadi village employs 180 people with an investment of Rs. 42 Crores.
• Two Megaprojects: NSL Krishnaveni sugars Ltd. and Shasta Bio Fuels Pvt. Ltd. provide jobs to 433 people.

Micro and Small Enterprises

• According to the MSME Act of 2006, a total of 293 Micro Enterprises were established with an investment of Rs. 95.45 Crores, providing employment to 1113 individuals.
• Additionally, 19 small enterprises were set up with an investment of Rs. 112.26 Crores, offering employment opportunities to 1223 persons between October 2006 and May 2015.

Irrigation

• The Priyadarshini Jurala Project was built on the Krishna River between Nandimalla village and Revulapally village to utilize 17.84 TMC of water for irrigating 1,04,124 acres of land.
• The project aims to provide water to drought-prone areas in various mandals like Amarachintha, Atmakur, Kothakota, Madanapur, Pebbair, Srirangapur, Weepanagandla, Chinnambaavi, Pentlavelly, Dharoor, Gadwal, Itikyal, and Manopad.
• Additionally, the project includes a provision for generating 234 MW of hydroelectric power, managed by TS GENCO, with a revised estimated cost of Rs. 1,815.20 Crores.

Ookachettuvagu Project, Ramanpad (v)

• The Ookachettuvagu Project acts as a balancing reservoir on the PJP Left Main Canal, providing 1.900 TMC of water for an ayacut of 5,172 acres.
• Out of the total land under the PJP Left Main Canal, irrigation potential is created for 69,975 acres in Wanaparthy district and 3,664 acres in Nagarkurnool district.

Rajiv Bheema Lift Irrigation (RBLI) and Mahatma Gandhi Kalwakurthy Lift Irrigation (MGKLI) Schemes

• Both RBLI and MGKLI are lift irrigation schemes in progress, aiming to provide irrigation to 70,347 acres and 75,648 acres, respectively.

Rainy Season and Rainfall Patterns

• The rainy season spans from June to September annually.
• Rainfall in the district intensifies from the southwest to the northeast direction.
• Approximately 80% of the total annual rainfall is received during the rainy season.
• July and August are considered the peak rainy months.
• In the year 2022-2023, the district recorded a rainfall of 808. MM compared to the normal rainfall of 579.6 MM.
