A material is what an object is made of. There are different materials from which various objects used in our day-to-day life are made. 

• Wood: It is a hard and fibrous material forming most of the branches and trunk of trees. We use various products made up of wood in our daily life such as table, chair, bed, almirah, etc.
  
• Paper: It is a thin sheet material obtained from plants, mainly used for writing, packing, printing, drawing, etc. Paper is used for making shopping bag. Books are also made up of paper. 
• Rubber: It is a natural product, obtained from latex, a milky liquid present in the cells of rubber-producing plants. We use various products made up of rubber in our daily life such as toys, tyres, slippers, etc.
  
• Plastic: It is synthetic or material that can be made from various chemical substance. There are various products which are made up of plastic such as mugs, bottles, toys, pipes, carry bags, etc.
• Cotton: It is a natural, soft and fluffy staple fiber that is obtained from the seedpod also known as cotton ball of the cotton plant. It is used to make different types of clothes.
• Leather: It made from the skin of animal. This material is mainly used to make shoes, bags, belt, jackets, etc.
  

Science in everyday Life

Science is involved in playing, cooking, eating, driving, breathing, etc. Examples of use of science in our daily life are:

• We go from one place to another with the help of bike, car, train, etc. These all are inventions of science.
• The house is a product of science in which we live.
• We use gas stove, microwave, toaster, etc., in our kitchen. These all are inventions of science. 
• We use soap, shampoo, oil, talcum powder, etc. These all are result of science.
• Torch, candle, lamps, etc., we use as a source of light are also products of science.
• The clothes, we wear are given by science to us.
• Iron that we use to remove wrinkles from our clothes is also an invention of science.
• Electricity, through which machines and devices such as refrigerator, computer, television, iron, washing machine, etc., run are also inventions of science.  Life cannot be imagined without any of these, as they have become a necessity in our lives.
