The Sky Above Us

Morning Sky vs. Night Sky

World Around Me | EVS for Class 2

  • When you wake up in the morning and peek outside, the sky looks bright and blue.
  • That's because the sun is shining up there, giving us light and warmth.
  • But when night comes, the sky turns dark.
  • You can still see some things up there, like the moon and lots of tiny sparkling lights called stars.
  • It's like a big, beautiful blanket of darkness with shiny decorations!

Sunny and Rainy Days

  • On a sunny day, the sky is clear and blue.
  • But when it rains, the sky turns dark, and sometimes you can't see the sun because it hides behind the clouds.

  • Earth is special because it's the only one we know that has life.

The Sun

  • The sun is the biggest member of our solar system family.
  • It keeps us warm and gives light so plants can grow.

Day and Night

  • Rotation: Earth spins around like a top. This spinning is called rotation. It takes 24 hours for Earth to spin around once. When your part of Earth faces the sun, it's day. When your part of Earth is turned away from the sun, it's night.
  • Revolution: Earth also travels around the sun in a big circle. This is called revolution. It takes about 365 days, or one year, to go all the way around. This journey around the sun is why we have different seasons.

Directions

  • There are four main directions: north, south, east, and west.

World Around Me | EVS for Class 2

  • In the morning, if you face where the sun rises, you are looking east. Behind you is west.
  • Your right hand points south, and your left hand points north.

The world is full of wonders waiting for you to discover. Keep exploring, and always stay curious!
