Introduction

We all need help to do things every day. There are special people who help us in different ways. For example:

People Who Help Us

A grocer sells fresh fruits, vegetables, and other food items. We go to the grocer’s shop to buy things we need to eat and cook.

Example: A grocer gives you juicy mangoes or crunchy carrots to take home.

A doctor looks after us when we fall ill. When we are not feeling well, a doctor checks us and gives us medicine to help us get better.

Example: A doctor puts a colorful bandage on your scraped knee or gives you yummy syrup for a sore throat.

A carpenter makes furniture like tables and chairs. Carpenters use wood and tools to build things we use at home and school.

Example: A carpenter makes a desk for your classroom or a shelf for your books.

A teacher teaches us. Teachers show us how to read, write, count, and learn many interesting things.

Example: Your teacher shows you how to write your name or sing a new song!

A watchman guards our homes and offices. He stays awake at night and keeps a close watch to keep everyone safe.

Example: A watchman checks the gate at night to keep it safe.

A policeman or a policewoman protects us from thieves. A policeman catches thieves and makes sure everyone follows the rules.

Example: A police officer waves to you while helping kids cross the road near school.

A driver drives cars, school buses and taxis. Drivers help people travel safely from one place to another.

Example: A driver takes children to school in a school bus.

A plumber repairs taps and pipes. He fixes leaks and makes sure we get clean water in our homes.

Example: A plumber fixes leaky taps in your bathroom.

A postman brings our letters. He delivers them to our homes from the post office.

Example: A postman brings a birthday card from your best friend or a gift from your aunt!

A gardener looks after the plants in our garden. He waters them and keeps them healthy.

Example: A gardener grows big sunflowers in the park where you love to play.

A chef prepares food for us. He cooks delicious meals in restaurants and hotels.

Example: A chef makes a cheesy sandwich or a sweet cupcake for you to eat.

A tailor stitches our clothes. He uses a sewing machine to make and fix clothes.

A sweeper cleans our surroundings. He sweep roads, parks, and homes to keep everything tidy and nice.

Why Are These People Important?

The people who help us are very important because they make our lives safe, comfortable, and happy.

• They keep us safe: Police officers and watchmen protect us from danger.
• They help us learn: Teachers make us smart with fun lessons.
• They keep us healthy: Doctors and nurses make us feel better when we’re sick.

Without these people, life would be difficult. That’s why we must respect them and be thankful for their hard work!
