C. Letters to the Editor

Q.1. A hobby is a leisure time activity for pleasure. Do you think it should be made part of school curriculum? Express your considered opinion in a letter to the editor of a national daily.

The Editor
The Hindustan Times
Ghaziabad
Feb, 10, 20xx
Sub. : Hobby as a part of education.
Dear Sir
A hobby is altogether different from occupation. It is taken up not for profit but for pleasure. It shows one’s hidden talent. The kind of hobby varies from person to person. The common hobbies are gardening, photography and stamp collecting.
In my opinion every student should be encouraged to pursue one or the other hobby. It can be reading and writing also. The youngsters will enjoy doing the activity of their choice and getting recognition.
But making hobby a compulsory subject is neither practiable nor in the interest of students. The students are already over loaded with their studies. Singing, paint¬ing and acting should be optional, not a vital part of school life.
Yours truly
Naina Mehta
Railway Road, Ambala.

Q.2. Write a letter to the editor of a newspaper about the worsening law and order situation in your town.

The Editor
The Times of India (Gurgaon Edition)
New Delhi January 10, 20xx
Sub. : Rising crime rate in Gurgaon Sir
Gurgaon is a fast expanding town in the National Capital region. It has big hotels, Malls and high rising buildings. The countless multinational offices here employ thousands of workers. The population is increasing which includes migrants from several areas. As those migrants dream for a better life, they need money which they can’t get from their petty jobs.
As a result, criminal activities are on rise. Incidents like chain snatching, robbery, house breaking occur almost everyday.
The police force is inactive or corrupt. So the people are feeling unsafe. The state must take some strict measures to restore law and order situation.
Yours truly

Gurgaon

Q.3. Senior citizens constitute a big chunk of our population. They are our guides, guardians and mentors. But are we doing something to keep thorn well-fed and secure? Write a letter to the editor of a newspaper expressing how you feel about the security of Senior citizens.

The Editor
Indian Express New Delhi
Sub. : Security of Senior Citizens Dear Sir
Persons above the age of 65 are considered senior citizens. Our grandparents come in this category. They are aged, physically too weak to defend themselves. In metro cities most such couples live alone in flats. Their children are married and settled abroad. The aged couple take in domestic helps to do all odd jobs. But for several hours at noon and midnight they have to live alone in the house. They are an easy prey for the robbers who kill them and loot them.
The senior citizens get no security from the police as well as neighbours. Many cases of murders of aged couples are reported in the newspapers. In the evening of life their sons also leave them alone. Who, after all, will ensure their safety except the state and the police? We all owe our life and upbringing to our parents and grandparents. Is it not our moral duty to protect and provide security for them?
The senior citizens also have to be on their guard. They should not engage servants and maids without their address mid photographs.
Truly yours
An activtist.

Preet Vihar,
New Delhi
12th May, 20xx
The Editor
The Times of India
New Delhi .
Sub: About nuisance of loudspeakers.
Sir
Through your esteemed newspaper I wish to draw the attention of the concerned authorities to the growing nuisance created by loudspeakers in our locality. People organise jagrans for the whole night. They don’t care for concerns of the students, heart patients, old people residing in the locality. The high volume of the loudspeakers disturb them. In marriage the high volume music is always irritating. Today, even temples, gurudwaras, mosques are no longer a place of peace. The prayers are read over loudspeakers. People living in the surrounding areas feel disturbed. It should be checked with strict rules. These activities can be done at low pitch. There should be limitation of time period.
I hope you will highlight my points strongly.
Thanking you
Yours faithfully
Shobit
