good morning children now we know two
properties related to addition of
integers which are closure property and
commutative property
let's see another properties related to
addition of integers which are
associative property and additive in
identity now let's try adding three
integers minus 2 plus -3 plus -5 now we
need to add 3 integers first now we need
to add these 3 integers first let us try
adding minus 3 and minus 2 first so this
gets reduced to -5 plus -3 plus minus 2
is equal to minus 5 now we need to add
minus 5 and minus 5 which is equal to
minus 10 so the answer here is minus 10
next let us try adding the same
expression and here first we will add
minus 5 and minus 2 and then we will add
minus 3 to it so minus 5 plus minus 2 if
we add these two integers the answer is
minus 7/2 which we need to add minus 3
minus 7 plus minus 3 the answer is again
minus 10 so what do we see when we add
minus 5 and minus 2 first and then add
minus 3 or if we add minus 3 and minus 2
first
then we add -5 to it the answer is same
in both the cases which is equal to
minus 10 what do we learn from this we
can say in addition of integers the sum
does not change even if the grouping is
changed this property is called
associative property of addition let's
see next property -7 + what integers
gives us minus 7 or let us take another
example what should be added to 9 so
that the answer is the number itself
which is 9 if we see -7 + 0 is equal to
minus 7 the sum or the answer is the
number itself same way 0 plus 9 is equal
to 9 which means the answer or the sum
is same as the number here we can say if
we add 0 to any integer the number
remains unchanged so 0 is the additive
identity of an integer meaning if we add
0 to any integer the integer remains the
same that is the sum is the same as the
integer itself so we saw another 2
properties related to addition of
integers first we saw in addition of
integers the sum doesn't change even if
the grouping is changed this is called
associative property as we saw when we
added -5 minus 2 and minus 3
the grouping changed but answer in each
case was same like here
we added minus 5 and minus 2 first and
in other case we added minus 3 and minus
2 first in both the cases the answer was
same which is minus 10 next we saw that
0 added to any integer the sum is the
same number that is 0 is the additive
identity of an integer so that was all
