(a) Price of 1 kg tomatoes = 8 rupees
Price of ½ kg tomatoes = 4 rupees.
(b) Price of 1 kg onions = 10 rupees
Price of ½ kg onions = 5 rupees
Price of 1kg carrot = 16 rupees
Price of ¼ kg carrot = 4 rupees.
So ½ kg of onion is more than ¼ kg of carrot.
(c) Price of 1 kg potatoes = 12 rupees
Price of ¾ kg of potatoes = 9 rupees.
(ii) Keerthi is going for shopping. She has only Rs 20 with her. Can she buy all the things in her shopping list? Her shopping list includes:
Potato: ½ kg
Pumpkin: 2 kg
Carrot: ¼ kg
Ans:
Price of 1 kg potatoes = 12rupees
Price of ½ kg potatoes = 6 rupees
Price of 1 kg pumpkin = 4 rupees
Price of 2kg pumpkin = 2 x 4 = 8 rupees
Price of 1kg carrot = 16 rupees
Price of ¼ kg carrot = 4 rupees
Total = 6 + 8 + 4 = 18 rupees.
(iii) From the price list given above, find the cost of 2 kg tomatoes and 1 ½ kg potatoes?
Ans:
Price of 1 kg tomatoes = 8 rupees
Price of 2 kg tomatoes = 2 x 8 = 16 rupees
Price of 1 kg potatoes = 12 rupees
Price of ½ kg potatoes = 6 rupees
Price of 1 ½ kg potatoes = 12 + 6 = 18 rupees
Total = 16 + 18 =34 rupees.
(iv) Manu travels 3 km and Nandu travels 1 ½ km. Who travels more and by how much?
Ans: Manu travels more by 1 ½ km.
(v) If the cost of 10 kg rice is 330 rupees. Find the cost of 5 kg rice?
Ans:
Cost of 10 kg rice = 330 rupees
Cost of 5 kg rice = Half of 330 = 165 rupees.
(vi) Ramesh bought a piece of halwa for his children Ammu and Anu. He divided it equally for them. How many parts they will get?
Ans: Each one will get ½ parts of Halwa.
(vii) There are 38 children in a class. ½ of them are boys. Find the number of girls?
Ans:
Total number of children = 38
Number of boys = ½ of 38 = 19
Number of girls = 38 – 19 = 19.
(viii) There are 20 balls in a basket. ½ of them are red, ¼ of them are blue and ¼ of them are green. Find the number of red balls, blue balls and green balls?
Ans:
Total number of balls = 20
Number of red balls = ½ of 20 = 10
Number of blue balls = ¼ of 20 = 5
Number of green balls = ¼ of 20 = 5
(ix) Price of ½ kg sugar is 15 rupees. Find the cost of 2 kg sugar?
Ans:
Price of ½ kg sugar = 15 rupees
Price of 1 kg sugar = 30 rupees
Price of 2 kg sugar = 2 x 30 = 60 rupees
(x) Kiran had 60 chocolates in his hand. ¼ of them he had given to his friends and ¾ of them he gave to his family members. How many chocolates each got?
Ans:
Total number of chocolates = 60
Chocolates given to his friends = ¼ of 60 = 15
Chocolates given to family members = ¾ of 60 = 45.
