during an intense workout a person's
body temperature will increase in order
to maintain a normal set body
temperature of around 37 degrees Celsius
the body may start to sweat sweating
helps to carry heat away from the body
the body produces different mechanisms
to help deal with the internal change of
body temperature many of which rely on
the negative feedback loop what is a
negative feedback loop a negative
feedback loop is a self-regulating
system input of the system causes a
variable to increase the resulting
output then reduces the input this
balancing act allows systems to maintain
homeostasis homeostasis refers to any
process that living things used to
actively maintain stable conditions
necessary for survival
besides regulating body temperature
negative feedback also helps to
facilitate breathing here's how it works
first there is a stimulus or change in
the body during exercise your muscles
require more oxygen next special
receptors detect a decrease of oxygen
concentration in the blood this
information travels along pathways to
the control center and the control
center determines the appropriate
response next key brain centers that
monitor oxygen levels send out signals
and messages to the effector the
effector in this case the muscles and
organs in charge of restoring the body
back to homeostasis respond to the
commands of the control center as a
result your breathing rate and heart
rate will increase to push more
oxygenated blood in to working muscle
tissue the response of the effector
provides feedback to influence the
magnitude of the stimulus and returns
the variable to homeostasis
functions such as blood pressure blood
glucose levels and hundreds of other
bodily systems are maintained within a
range of normal values despite the
constant change of external conditions
