When the  jet sprang into the sky,
It was clear why the city
had developed the way it had,
seeing it scaled six inches to the mile,
There seemed an inevitability
about what on ground had looked haphazard,
unplanned and without style.

Explanation In Hindi - 

जब जेट यान आकाश में ऊपर उठा तो  कवि को यह समझ में आ गया कि नगर इतने  बेतरतीब ढंग से  बना क्यों दिखता है उसका माप छह इंच से एक मील के बीच था, वहाॅ यह स्वाभाविक तथा अपरिहार्य था कि वह अनियोजित और अव्यवस्थित दिखाई दें |

Explanation In Hindi -  

जब जेटयान धरती से 10,000 फुट की ऊंचाई  पर पहुंचा और कवि ने खिडकी से नीचे झाँका  तो उसे स्पष्ट हो गया कि देश में नगर वही क्यों बसे जहाॅ बगल में नदियाॅ बह रही थीं और घाटियों में ही आबादी क्यों है यह बात स्पष्ट दिखाई दी कि भूमि तथा जल लोगों को अपनी ओर खींचते हैं |

When the jet rose six miles high,
it was clear the earth was round.
and that it had more sea than land.               
But it was difficult  to understand.
that the men on the earth found
causes to hate each other,
to build walls across cities and to kill.

Explanation In Hindi -  

जब जेटयान पृथ्वी से 6 मील ऊपर उड रहा था, तो यह स्पष्ट दिखा कि पृथ्वी गोलाकार है और यहाॅ जमीन से समुद्री भाग अधिक हैं | पर कवि के लिए यह समझ पाना मुश्किल है कि पृथ्वी पर लोग परस्पर घृणा क्यों करने लगते हैं, शहरों को दीवारों  में क्यों बॅाट देते हैं, और एक दूसरे को क्यों मार देते हैं उतनी उॅचाई से कवि इस स्थिति का कारण नहीं समझ पाया |
