One thing to be kept in mind all along the way for Science preparation is that practice is the key here. The more you practice for every topic, the better understanding is achieved.
Science Class 9 - Videos, Docs, MCQs
Includes 169 docs, 131 videos & 103 tests
Some things that you should follow and might be helpful in the learning process for science are:
1. Make sure to strengthen your basics initially by studying from the NCERT Textbooks. Study additional books only after you know that your basic concepts are clear. Study from the Science NCERT Textbook and practice all the solved examples and exercise questions thoroughly before moving forward to extra practice from additional books. Refer to NCERT Solutions in case of any doubt.
Chapter 1 - Matter in Our Surroundings
Chapter 2 - Is Matter Around Us Pure
Chapter 3 - Atoms and Molecules
Chapter 4 - Structure of the Atom
Chapter 5 - Cell - The Fundamental Unit of Life
Chapter 6 - Tissues
Chapter 7 - Diversity in Living Organisms
Chapter 8 - Motion
Chapter 9 - Force and Laws of Motion
Chapter 10 - Gravitation
Chapter 11 - Work and Energy
Chapter 12 - Sound
Chapter 13 - Why do we fall ill
Chapter 14 - Natural Resources
Chapter 15 - Improvement in Food Resources
2. Have a thorough knowledge of each and every topic of Physics, Chemistry and Biology you study as your knowledge is going to pay you at and not the number of books you study.
3. Develop a good understanding of topics. It will help you with those challenging questions or derive formulae in the rare chance you forget. This can be done by watching videos for various topics that will help you develop an interest in the topic.
4. Go through chapter notes during the revision to learn all the important concepts in one go. Then, move on to learning questions and answers for every chapter.
5. Evaluation is a very important step in the preparation. Test your knowledge with various topic-wise and chapter-wise tests on completion of each one of them. Also, attempt previous year papers and sample papers for further evaluation.
6. In conclusion, understand each and every concept of Physics, Chemistry and Biology from the NCERT textbooks. Make notes as you study. Learn important definitions, experiments, short descriptions, reactions, equations, formulas, etc. Solve the questions at the end of the chapters.
(a) Physics
Revise the concepts in a sequential order. For example, only after understanding and being thorough with the concepts of Motion, one will be able to easily understand and revise the concepts of Laws of Motion. This not just boosts confidence but also develops interest and helps to save time.
Write down all the formulae with the full meaning of the variables and the SI and CGS units of each of them. This will help to prevent any silly mistake while solving a numerical.
Avoid revision by going through the concepts virtually. Practise learning and writing on your own regularly.
Avoid taking up any new concept just before the exams, practice and gain expertise on that which has already been learnt.
(b) Chemistry
Focus on application-based questions from the ‘Matter in our Surroundings’ chapter.
Solve as many numericals on ‘Mole Concept’ and study the valencies of elements.
Practise writing chemical formulae.
Remember the theories on various models of the atom.
(c) Biology
Concentrate on all the cell organelles, and an application-based question is expected from osmosis, diffusion and plasmolysis.
Try to remember the similarities and dissimilarities of various phyla of the Animal Kingdom.
Remember the rules for writing a scientific name of an organism.
An inferential based question is expected from diseases in human beings.
Know the various modes of transmission and the symptoms of communicable diseases.
Biogeochemical cycles must be a compulsory inclusion while studying; all the cycles are important.
Remember the breeds of poultry, milch animals and fish.
Chapter 1: Matter in Our Surrounding
You can expect short, concept testing questions from this chapter.
Questions on different states of matter mainly solid, liquid and gas are asked indirectly by giving their characteristics.
Chapter 2: Is Matter Around Us Pure
This is another chapter that can help you score those easy numbers in the paper. Work on:
Numerical questions are also asked from this chapter, so refresh your concepts on:
Chapter 3 – Atoms and Molecules
1. Laws of chemical combination
a) Law of conservation of mass
b) Law of constant proportions
2. Dalton’s Atomic Theory
3. Symbols of atoms of different elements
4. Atomic mass
5. Types of molecules
a) Molecules of elements
b) Molecules of compounds
6. Ions
7. Rules for writing chemical formulae
8. Calculation of molecular mass
9. Mole concept
Chapter 4 – Structure of the Atom
Chapter 5: Cell: The Fundamental Unit of Life
If you know this chapter very well, you will be sure to sail through the exam because you can find long and short answer type questions being set from here.
Chapter 6: Tissues
We know you have a tough time memorising the locations and functions of each tissue, therefore here’s a Meritnation Tip to make this chapter a cake walk.
Chapter 7 – Diversity in Living Organisms
Chapter 8: Motion
This chapter has generally been viewed as one of those where students fumble. Questions on motion in term of graphs is commonly asked and students are at a loss so as to draw different graphs based on the varied concepts asked. Practice drawing distance-time graphs, displacement-time graphs, velocity-time graph in different states of motion.
Chapter 9: Force and Law of Motion
Learn the definitions of inertia, mass and Newton’s laws of motion as part of the higher order analytical questions. Practical applications of Law of Conservation of momentum like collision, recoil of a pistol etc are mostly asked.
Chapter 10: Gravitation
Brush up your concepts on Gravitation as you can face theoretical questions like difference in mass and weight, law of gravitation with its formula, concept of gravity and it acceleration in the exam.
