The Lazy Frog Summary Class 5 English Marigold Poem 5

‘The Lazy Frog’ as the name implies is a poem about a lazy frog whose name is ‘Fred’. The poem is a very simple yet interesting illustration of the character of Fred. 

Paragraph 1 

Who lolls all day upon a log.

He always manages to shirk

Doing a single stroke of work.

Summary: The first four lines of the poem starts by giving us an introduction to Fred’s behavior. He is a very lazy frog and spends the whole day laying down on a log. He could only manage to move around the log and then continue to lay down without doing. 

Paragraph 2

His poor old mother calls in vain

"Come in and help!" he does not bother

To move two inches, much preferring

To be extremely hard of hearing.

He lies there in a silent heap,

And stays conveniently asleep.

Summary: The next few lines of the poem highlight his ignorant behavior towards his mother. His poor mother, an old frog works all day alone and asks for a little help from Fred but Fred ignoring his mother prefers to lie down silently or sleep. These lines also indicate and relate to the behavior of lazy people who ignore their duties and prefer to just lay down even ignoring their responsibilities. 

Paragraph 3

If a lady frog hops past

You'd think he would get up at last

To bow, and help her on her way?

But no, I am ashamed to say

That when a lady frog comes by

He does not open up one eye!

Summary: The concluding para of the poem highlights how much ignorant and lazy the frog is. A lady frog passes by but Fred does not even bother to wake up and bow or ask her a help. He lays down with his eyes closed. The last line of the poem concludes by mentioning how lazy Fred could be.
