Mobile Phone Manners

More and more people are used to carrying mobile phones to their workplace. However, the use of mobile phones can be dangerous at certain times and places. It is really a dangerous thing to use phones all the time. There has to be a way in which one should use his/her phone. Use of mobile phones while driving must be clearly ignored because no call is as important as one's life. There are many places where even the use of mobile phones is strictly prohibited such as inside an aircraft, in an ICU or when you are near a heart patient.

Even the government is also taking initiatives to ban the use of mobile phones in certain places. The Government on Thursday banned the use of cellular phones at petrol pumps as they could ignite the flammable vapours present in the air. This clearly shows that mobile phones can be dangerous too. Follow certain manners or etiquettes while using the phones such as - While talking keep your voice low so that other people by your side don't feel annoyed, avoid using the phone while using public transportation, do not talk or text while having a face-to-face conversation so that one doesn't lose any interpersonal links, etc.

Hence, mobile phones should be used in a proper manner without making others feel annoyed or irritated. Mobile phone etiquettes are similar to common courtesy. Phone calls and the messages have a tendency to deviate people from what's happening in front of them. Therefore, Mobile users should be thoughtful, courteous and respect the people around them and must always follow the etiquettes of using this technology.

Ques 3: Develop a short story in 150-200 words which begin as of the following:

A cap seller carrying a bundle of caps ........... sleeps under a tree............ puts the bundle beside him ........... some monkeys take away the caps ............ wakes up ........ finds monkeys wearing caps ..... angry ...... throws his own cap....... monkeys throw their caps ........ collects ........happy.

Ans: Last Sunday I along with my friends decided to go to the riverside for a picnic. We planned to spend the whole day there, but an unfortunate event took place. We got an unknown call from somebody who introduced himself as our well-wisher. He cautioned us to avoid staying for a longer duration at the riverside for a picnic because there was a fear of a crocodile near the riverside. But, we were not sure whether it was a hoax or real news. Nonetheless, there was no chance of taking a risk.

Hearing this news, we all became tensed and started looking for an alternative location for the picnic. But, we had already travelled for four hours to reach this destination and then the fear of crocodile was making us tremble with fear. All our excitement and happiness was reduced to zero and we couldn't think of anything better than keeping all our things back in the car and making our way towards our respective homes.

Therefore, the day which was supposed to be a happy and exciting one turned out to be a sheer waste for all of us and we all returned back with a sad face cursing the very presence of crocodile near the riverside.

Or

Once, there was a cap-seller in a town.  On one fine day, he was carrying a bundle of caps. He was selling caps. “Caps, caps, caps….Two rupees, Five rupees caps,…." After he made a few sales of caps, he became extremely tired. He decided to sit under a big tree to take rest for a while. Soon, he slept off.

There were many monkeys on the big tree. They saw the cap-seller was sleeping under the tree. The monkeys were sitting on the top of the tree. The monkeys came down, took the caps from the cap-seller-bag and wore them. Then they climbed the tree again. When the cap seller woke up, he was shocked to see his basket empty. He searched for his caps.

To his surprise, he saw the monkeys were wearing them. He got angry. He found that monkeys were imitating him. So, he started throwing his cap down and the monkeys also did so. The cap-seller collected all the caps, put them back in his basket and went away happily.

Ques 5: Answer any four of the following questions in 30-40 words each:

i. How did Kisa Gotami realise that life and death is a normal process?

ii. Why did Maddie write a note to Peggy and then tore it?

iii. How can you say that Horace Danby was good and respectable but not completely honest?

iv. What difficulty do the crew of the space probe face on the Earth?

v. What was the most fascinating thing that Valli saw on the street?

Ans: i) Kisa Gotami understood that death is common to all and that she was being selfish in her grief. She understood this only the second time because it was then that she found that there was not a single house where some beloved had not died. First time round, she was only thinking about her grief and was therefore asking for a medicine that would cure her son. When she met the Buddha, he asked her to get a handful of mustard seeds from a house where no one had died. He did this purposely to make her realize that there was not a single house where no beloved had died, and that death is natural. When she went to all the houses the second time, she felt dejected that she could not gather the mustard seeds. Then, when she sat and thought about it, she realized that the fate of men is such that they live and die. Death is common to all. This was what the Buddha had intended her to understand.

(ii) Maddie wanted Peggy to stop making fun of Wanda hence, she wrote a note to her but then she thought that the note would annoy Peggy and she would start teasing her instead and thus, she tore the note.

(iii) Horace Danby was considered a kind and honest man, but he was not entirely honest. Fifteen years ago, he had been imprisoned for stealing rare books. He was not a typical thief; he stole only once a year. And he stole to fulfil his desire to acquire rare books. He did not steal again and again, he wasn’t a repeat offender. He stole only to buy rare books.

(iv) The crew of the space probe landed in a public library. It was a strange place for them as the crew had no idea about books. They thought it to be a storage barn.

(v) The bus service running between her village and the nearest town was the most fascinating thing for Valli. The bus which passed the street every hour had a new set of passengers in it and watching them gave her immense joy.
