Gautama Buddha, born as Prince Siddhartha Gautama, belonged to a royal family in North India. From a young age, he lived a life of luxury, unaware of the hardships of the world. At the age of twelve, he was sent to study Hindu scriptures and later returned to marry a princess and have a son. He lived a royal life for nearly ten years, but his life took a turn when he was exposed to the realities of human suffering.
During a visit outside the palace, he encountered an old man, a sick man, a dead body, and a monk. These sights deeply affected him and made him realise that suffering is a part of human life. Troubled by what he saw, Siddhartha decided to leave his royal comforts behind and set out in search of truth and inner peace.
After years of meditation and spiritual search, he attained enlightenment under a Bodhi tree and became known as Gautama Buddha – the Enlightened One. He began teaching people the path of wisdom, compassion, and detachment from worldly desires. His first sermon in Benares marked the beginning of his mission to guide others toward peace and understanding.
Buddha believed that grief and sorrow increase human suffering and that one should accept the natural cycle of life and death. He taught that a wise person does not mourn what is inevitable, and true peace comes from letting go of attachments and desires.
