Comprehension 2
Read the following passage and answer the questions.
The sandstorm was dreadful. It rose suddenly, forcing everyone indoors. The wind seemed to rush around the house. Sometimes it roared and at other times it seemed to moan and howl. Mini and her mother, Sudha, waited for Hariram, her father, to return from the villages to which he had gone as usual to deliver letters. He was the village postman and people waited for his arrival. He was not normally so late, but the storm must have delayed him too. ‘Will Baba be able to see in this dark, Amma?’ asked Mini. ‘Oh, yes!’ assured Sudha, sounding confident, even though she herself was frightened of the dark. Villages were very scattered in this desert region and when the winds blew, sand would cover the roads. There were no street lights and the villagers learnt to find their way by looking at the stars. But tonight the stars were not visible. How would Hariram find his way home? Suddenly, above the howl of the wind, they heard a bell. ‘Baba’s bicycle!’ said Mini, and ran to the window to look out. There was Hariram, pushing his bicycle against the wind, the sand whirling all around him. He had wrapped his turban all around his face, just barely able to open his eyes. Mini forgot the storm and the sand as she ran out to hug him! Sudha stood at the door of her small hut, smiling. For the small family, the storm was over. Hariram had reached home. The last delivery for the day had been completed!
