Ans.
NEED FOR ART AND MUSIC IN SCHOOLS
The present-day life is full of hurry and worry. There is fret, fever and tension in every mind. Everybody longs to have at least some moments of peace in his life. And that peace can come from art and music only. Music and art wash away from the soul the dust of everyday life. Art is the purest form of joy which equally touches every heart. Music is food for the soul. And the varieties of this food are many — vocal, instrumental, western, oriental, classical, pop, light, jazz, etc. Music may be of any kind; it knows no limitations of caste, creed or religion. It has a universal appeal. Musical concerts and art competitions are always a big draw. If we are to make this world a better place to live in, we should attune the ears of our children to the joys of music. They should be introduced to the beauties of art. Art and music should be taught in schools. The study of art and music helps the students in their better emotional development. It also helps in shaping their personalities.

You are Abhishek / Amitha. You feel concerned to see how childern are increasingly getting hooked on to new electronic gadgets. Write an article for your school magazine on how such gadgets influence teenagers.
Ans.
TEENAGERS HOOKED ON TO NEW GADGETS
Every day, we find newspapers and magazines flooded with advertisements related to the latest gadgets like mobiles, cameras, calculators, videos and what not. Children lose no time in getting hooked on to them. They forget that it is not their own money that has gone to buy these gadgets but the hard-earned money of their parents. And they have hardly any need for them. For example, what has a student to do with a mobile that has scores of different features ? What has he or she to do with a mobile with an in-built camera ? What has he or she to do with a variety of ringtones ? All such gadgets are doing the children an incalculable harm. They are wasting not only the hard-earned money of their parents, but also their valuable time.

Even after about seventy years of Independence, women have to walk miles together in certain parts of the country to fetch drinking water. There is not only the scarcity of water but water in most places is also contaminated. Write an article for your school magazine on the scarcity of clean drinking water in the country.

Ans.
SCARCITY OF CLEAN DRINKING WATER IN THE COUNTRY
It is unfortunate that even after about seventy years of independence, clean drinking water is not available in certain parts of the country. Women can be seen going miles together to fetch drinking water for their families. There is not only scarcity of water, there is the problem of contaminated water also. As a result, people become the victims of all sorts of waterborne diseases. It is the first and foremost duty of the government to make clean drinking water available to all the citizens of the country. Chlorinated and purified water should be supplied to all rural as well as urban areas through underground water pipes.

Q.8. You are Raman / Raveena. You have been asked to write an article on ‘Cancer — a Silent Killer’ on World Health Day.
Ans.
CANCER — A SILENT KILLER
There are chemicals in the body that control the growth and repair of cells in our body. In cancer, this control system breaks down, and millions of unwanted cells are produced. If they cannot be destroyed, they may take over vital organs such as the brain, lungs and liver. They can stop their normal working, resulting in the person’s death. The use of tobacco in any form has been seen as the biggest cause of cancer.
Considering the steady growth of this disease, it becomes the duty of the government to take steps for its control and treatment. Thanks to the advancements made in medical science, many people who get cancer can now be completely cured.

Children are the future of the nation. Schools, along with the parents, can play very important role in the development of all-round personality of a child. Write an article on the topic, ‘Role of School in a Child’s Life’.

Hints : Importance of school for a child – shaping of physical and mental health – development   of right attitude – character-building – dreams come true.
Ans.
ROLE OF SCHOOL IN A CHILD'S LIFE
Next to home, school is the most important place that gives shape to the life of a child. It is in school that a child learns the first lessons of social behaviour. It is in school that the foundations of knowledge are laid. It is in school that a child has his or her first encounter with the outside world. School helps the child to grow up in a healthy manner. The child develops physically, mentally and emotionally. If the foundations are laid at the mother’s knee, they are further strengthened in the school. A good school can bring about an all-round development in a child’s life. It decides the future course that the child will take in his or her life. It is the real temple where the child meets the real gods in flesh and blood.

Many children feel tempted to break rules in school. They find pleasure in doing so. Write an article discussing reasons for it. Suggest measures to make children respect rules. You are Arun / Aruna.    (2016)
Ans.
RESPECT FOR THE RULES
Rules are statements that tell us what we are expected to do under particular situations. For example, in most schools, it is a rule for students in most schools to come in proper uniforms. They are expected to be on time and do nothing that can harm or deface the school building. It is very important for students to respect all the rules of their school. Some students do break the rules sometimes, knowingly or unknowingly, but it should never become a habit. Disobeying the rules means disrespect not only to the institution, but also to rule-breaker himself. Discipline teaches us that we should obey the rules. And by obeying the rules, we become disciplined in our life. We can earn the respect of others and also win success in our life. Indiscipline or breaking the rules never pays in any way.

Our planet Earth is in danger as man indiscriminately cuts down forests, causing natural ecosystems to break down. Write an article on the ‘importance of trees for man’s survival’.

Ans.
IMPORTANCE OF TREES FOR MAN’S SURVIVAL
Trees do more good to man than any other thing in this world. In fact, without trees and forests, it would be impossible for man to live. They give us all the necessities of life. They give food for man. They purify the air. They help to bring rain. They beautify our surroundings. They give shelter to countless wild animals and birds. They keep the land safe from soil erosion. They give us pleasant shade from the heat of the sun. But it is very sad that man, in his greed, has destroyed this wealth of nature. Once upon a time, most of the hill slopes of India were covered with large forests. As the population grew, trees were cut down for fuel or for timber. That is how the wonderful forests described in our ancient poems came to be destroyed. There is another grave danger. Deforestation has disturbed the oxygen cycle in the air. There are now not enough trees to treat all the carbon dioxide produced by man. Thus the air remains polluted which can prove very harmful for all living things. Is it not like digging one’s own grave ? Trees are man’s best friends. If we do not care for them, they also will one day stop caring for us. And then, imagine, what will happen !

Write an article on the subject of road safety for schoolchildren.
Ans.
ROAD SAFETY FOR SCHOOLCHILDREN

We all use the roads daily in our life. But many a time, we forget to follow the rules of the road. We do so in our carelessness or in our hurry. It results in serious accidents in which limbs are broken or even lives are lost. We must analyse the causes of these accidents and think of the steps by which these accidents can be checked. First of all, children must be taught the rules of the road. They should be taught to follow these rules strictly whenever they are using a road. These rules are equally important for pedestrians, cyclists, motorcyclists and auto-drivers. The wearing of helmets and safety belts should be made a habit. We should not wear them simply to escape from being caught by the traffic police. We should wear them as a safeguard to our own life and limb.

You are Amit / Amita of ABC School, Naya Gaon. Write an article for a newspaper on the growing evil of drug addiction among the youth.
Ans.
THE EVIL OF DRUG ADDICTION
Drug addiction is becoming very common among our youth. Perhaps the youth find this life too burdensome. As an escape from it, they take to drugs. Sometimes parents themselves become the cause of it. They are either too strict or have no time to attend to their children. The young ones feel neglected. Our purposeless system of education is also one of the big causes. When the youth fail to get any employment after 15-20 years of education, they get frustrated and take to drugs. Drug addiction has become a big social problem. There is no short-cut cure for drug abuse. We often complain that our youth are going wrong. But, we hardly do anything to understand their problems.
The best way to keep our youth away from drugs is to use their energies in constructive ways. An employment-based educational system should be evolved.

You have noticed a growing tendency towards violence among young people. Write an article for the school magazine, highlighting the role of the media, viz. the TV and the Cinema. You are Raman / Rani of New High School, Alwar.
Ans.
VIOLENCE AMONG THE YOUTH

Of late, a growing tendency towards violence has been noticed among young people. Very often, this tendency takes the shape of serious crimes also. Police investigations and psychoanalysis have revealed that the TV and the Cinema are the major factors that have led to this growing tendency. The TV and the Cinema have a powerful impact on young minds and they always copy what they watch on the screen. Sadly, most of the films and other programmes screened these days are sex or violence-ridden. So it is nothing strange that the youth, too, try to follow such things in their practical life. To check this trend, the government should disallow the screening of all such films that are eroding the moral values of our social life.
