GATE 2022 Virtual Calculator - How to Use it
- During GATE 2022, the candidates will not be allowed to take many objects inside the exam centres and a calculator is one of them. However, the candidates will need a calculator since GATE 2022 will have many questions which will be numerically based.
- To make sure that the candidates are not at loss, the authorities will provide a special feature to the candidates which is the virtual calculator of GATE 2022. Candidates can use the GATE 2022 virtual calculator to calculate their answers during the examination.
- This feature has been introduced in GATE since 2016. However, since the feature is a bit complicated, the candidates should know how to use the GATE 2022 virtual calculator.
GATE 2022 Virtual Calculator - Features
Some of the features are given below so that the candidates can learn how to use GATE 2022 virtual calculator:
- Candidates who will be appearing for the entrance examination will be allowed to use the virtual calculator of GATE 2022 by the authorities at the exam centres.
- The keys for simple operations will be available at the right hand side of GATE 2022 virtual calculator.
- For scientific functions and operations, the keys will be placed at the left hand side of the virtual calculator.
- Inverse functions will have separate keys so the candidates will not be required to click SHIFT or INV keys.
- The inverse functions will be below the respective functions. For example, 'sininv' will be available below 'sin' on the calculator.
- Candidates will be able to find the trigonometric functions grouped together.
- The hyperbolic functions will also be grouped together in the virtual calculator of GATE 2022.
- Candidates will be able to see two display boxes at the top of the virtual calculator. One of the boxes will indicate the sequence of the keys pressed by the candidate for reference.
- The other box will show the actual entered values or obtained after the calculation is done.

Answer: Questions related to any area related to complex numbers such as power systems or any other area, can be solved using the virtual calculator of GATE 2021.
Question 3: How to do the calculations involving fractions?
Answer: The numerical-based questions will have answers only in decimal form. Therefore, there will be no provision for fractions.
Question 4: How to convert polar to rectangular form and vice versa?
Answer: Since there are no separate keys for this function, the candidates will have to use the appropriate conversions using the calculator.
Question 5: How to solve quadratic, cubic or simultaneous equations?
Answer: These types of equations cannot be done in the virtual calculator since it is not programmed.
Answer: Candidates will have to manually do these operations since the virtual calculators are not programmed for it.
Answer: Any constant needed for solving problems will be present in the question paper of GATE 2021. Wherever the constant is not mentioned, the candidates are required to know it beforehand.
Answer: No. Candidates will not be allowed to use the keyboard during the examination.
