FAQs on Class 5 Maths - Decimals - CBSE Worksheets Solutions

1. What are decimals?
Ans. Decimals are a way to represent fractions or parts of a whole number. They are numbers with a decimal point, which separates the whole number part from the fractional part. For example, 2.5 represents two whole units and half of another unit.
2. How do we read decimals?
Ans. Decimals are read by saying the whole number part followed by the decimal point and then the digits after the decimal point individually. For example, the decimal 3.75 is read as "three point seven five."
3. How can decimals be compared to determine which is greater or lesser?
Ans. Decimals can be compared by looking at the digits before the decimal point. If the digits are the same, we move to the first decimal place and compare the digits there. This process continues until a difference is found. The decimal with the greater digit at that place is considered greater.
4. How can we convert fractions to decimals?
Ans. To convert a fraction to a decimal, we divide the numerator (the top number) by the denominator (the bottom number). This division gives us the decimal representation of the fraction. For example, to convert 3/4 to a decimal, we divide 3 by 4, which is equal to 0.75.
5. How can we convert decimals to fractions?
Ans. To convert a decimal to a fraction, we write the digits after the decimal point as the numerator and the place value of the last digit as the denominator. We simplify the fraction if possible. For example, the decimal 0.6 can be written as 6/10, which simplifies to 3/5.
