Mishri variety of cherries


Context: 


First commercial shipment of Mishri variety of cherries from Kashmir exported to Dubai.

Details:

  • Mishri variety of Cherries are not only delicious but also contain vitamins, minerals and plant compound with health benefits.
  • Jammu and Kashmir produces more than 95% of the country’s total production of commercial varieties of cherries.
  • It produces four varieties of cherry — Double, Makhmali, Mishri and Italy.
  • The commencement of commercial shipment of cherries would provide huge opportunities for exports of several temperate fruits like plums, pears, apricot and apples from Kashmir to especially middle east countries in the forthcoming seasons.

Ministry of Co-operation


Context:


A new Ministry of Co-operation created.

Details:

  • A separate ‘Ministry of Co-operation’ has been created by the government for realizing the vision of ‘Sahkar se Samriddhi’.
  • This ministry will provide a separate administrative, legal and policy framework for strengthening the cooperative movement in the country.
  • The Ministry will work to streamline processes for ‘Ease of doing business’ for co-operatives and enable the development of Multi-State Co-operatives (MSCS).

Matsya Setu App


Context:


Matsya Setu Mobile App launched by the Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Ministry.

About the Matsya Setu App:

  • It is an online course mobile app developed by the ICAR-Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture (ICAR-CIFA), Bhubaneswar, with the funding support of the National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB), Hyderabad.
  • The app aims to disseminate the latest freshwater aquaculture technologies to the aqua farmers of the country.
  • Matsya Setu app has species-wise/subject-wise self-learning online course modules, where renowned aquaculture experts explain the basic concepts and practical demonstrations on breeding, seed production and grow-out culture of commercially important fishes like carp, catfish, scampi, murrel, ornamental fish, pearl farming etc.
  • Better Management Practices to be followed in maintaining the soil & water quality, feeding and health management in aquaculture operations are also provided in the course platform.
  • The modules are divided into small video chapters for the convenience of the learners, along with additional learning materials.
  • It also features quizzes and tests for self-assessment.
  • Upon successful completion of each course module, an e-Certificate can be auto-generated.
  • Farmers can also ask their doubts through the app and get specific advisories from experts.

Tele Law Initiative - Indian Polity Notes


With a view to providing legal aid and services to the backward communities and the people in rural areas, the Tele Law Initiative was launched by the Ministry of Law and Justice in collaboration with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). Citizens can access these services over the internet at no cost through the Digital Seva Portal.

What is the Tele Law Initiative?


It is a program by the government where people can seek legal advice from lawyers through video conferencing available at the Common Service Centers, on the ‘Tele Law’ portal – a technology-enabled platform. The legal services would be provided at the Panchayat levels across the country through the Common Service Centers.

Tele-Law initiative – Overview

  1. The Non-government organizations, hospitals, law school clinics, district legal services authorities, voluntary service providers can also be connected through the Common Service Centers. This is done with a view to improving access to justice for those who find it difficult to afford or get such services.
  2. The Paralegal Volunteer would be the initial point of contact. He/she would be involved in helping people from the rural areas understand legal matters, elaborately explaining the lawyer’s advice and also in providing assistance in further actions as per the lawyer’s advice.
  3. In order to encourage women entrepreneurship and empowerment, Women Paralegal volunteers would also be given the training to provide legal services through the Common Service Centres.
  4. A panel of lawyers will be provided by the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) in every state capital to advise the applicants through video conferencing.
  5. To assess the quality of legal services being provided to the marginalized sections, robust evaluation and monitoring system will be put in place by the government.
  6. The first phase will be implemented across 1800 panchayats in Jammu and Kashmir, North Eastern States, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.

Objectives of Tele-Law initiative


The main objective of the Tele-law initiative is to provide a planned delivery of legal advice through a panel of lawyers stationed at the State Legal Services Authorities (SALSA) and CSC.
The project aims to connect citizens with lawyers through video conferencing facilities by the Para-Legal Volunteers stationed at identified 1800 panchayat.

  1. Common Services Centers (CSC) provide a platform providing the feature of multiple transactions in one geographical location.
  2. These centres have been set up with the objective of providing facilities for delivering e-services by the government to the areas where the availability of the internet and computers is minimal.

Context:


Khadi Prakritik Paint has been launched by Kumarappa National Handmade Paper Institute, Jaipur (a KVIC unit).

About Khadi Prakritik Paint:

  • It is an eco-friendly, non-toxic paint with anti-fungal, anti-bacterial properties. Based on cow dung as its main ingredient, the paint is cost-effective and odourless, and has been certified by the Bureau of Indian Standards.
  • The paint is free from heavy metals like lead, mercury, chromium, arsenic, cadmium and others.
  • It will be a boost to local manufacturing and will create sustainable local employment through technology transfer.
  • This technology will increase the consumption of cow dung as a raw material for eco-friendly products and will generate additional revenue to farmers and gaushalas.
  • This is estimated to generate additional income of Rs 30,000 (approx.) per annum per animal to farmers/gaushalas.
  • Utilization of cow dung will also clean the environment and prevent clogging of drains.
