(b) chlorenchyma
(c) collenchyma
(d) sclerenchyma

Correct Answer is Option (c)
Collenchyma consist of living cells and are characterised by the presence of cellulose. Collenchyma is a mechanical tissue in young dicotyledonous stems and provides mechanical support and elasticity. It provides great tensile strength with flexibility to those organs in which it is found. It allows easy bending in various parts of a plant mainly young growing stem without breaking them.

Q.3: The cell appear elongated, tapering at ends as observed under a microscope. It is
(a) sclerenchyma fibre
(b) striped muscle

(c) parenchyma
(d) nerve cell

Correct Answer is Option (a)
There are two types of sclerenchyma cells:
i. fibres which are elongated cells with tapering ends and
ii. sclereids (also called stone cells), which are roughly isodiametric cells with narrow cavities.

Q.4: A ball is thrown up with a velocity of 20 ms-1. What is the time of flight, neglecting air resistance?
(a) 8 sec
(b) 1 sec
(c) 2 sec
(d) 4 sec

Correct Answer is Option (d)
Using kinematic equation, v = u + a x t, when ball reaches to top of its trajectory, it's velocity becomes zero. Ball is thrown against gravity of earth, therefore a = - g, u = 20 m/s, we can find time of ascend as
0 = 20 -10 x t
20 = 10 x t
t = 20/10 = 2 sec

Time of ascend is same as time of descend = 2 sec.
Time of flight = time of ascend + time of descend
Therefore time of flight = 4 sec.

Q.11: Substance 'X' was added to a test tube containing water and grounded arhar dal to test the presence of metanil yellow. The colour of solution changed to pink. Identify 'X'
(a) H2CO3
(b) NaOH
(c) HCl

Read the text carefully and answer the questions:
A suspension is a heterogeneous mixture in which the solute particles do not dissolve but remain suspended throughout the bulk of the medium. Particles of a suspension are visible to the naked eye. The particles of a suspension scatter a beam of light passing through it and make its path visible. Due to the relatively smaller size of particles, as compared to that of a suspension, the mixture appears to be homogeneous. The scattering of a beam of light is called the Tyndall effect. The components of a colloidal solution are the dispersed phase and the dispersion medium. The solute-like component or the dispersed particles in a colloid form the dispersed phase, and the component in which the dispersed phase is suspended is known as the dispersing medium.

Read the text carefully and answer the questions:
Plants are stationary or fixed they don’t move. Since they have to be upright, they have a large quantity of supportive tissue. The supportive tissue generally has dead cells. Animals, on the other hand, move around in search of food, mates and shelter. Another difference between animals and plants is in the pattern of growth. The growth of plants occurs only in certain specific regions. New cells produced by meristem are initially like those of meristem itself, but as they grow and mature, their characteristics slowly change and they become differentiated as components of other tissues. The girth of the stem or root increases due to lateral meristem (cambium). Cells of meristematic tissue are very active, lack vacuoles.
