Rani Gaidinliu Tribal Freedom Fighters Museum

Context:

The Union Minister will lay the Foundation Stone of the Rani Gaidinliu Tribal Freedom Fighters Museum at Manipur.

Rani Gaidinliu

Background:

• Rani Gaidinliu was born on January 26, 1915 in Luangkao Village now in Manipur.
• She met Jadonang at the age of 13 and became his lieutenant in his social, religious, and political movement.
• Following Jadonang’s death, Gaidinliu assumed leadership of the movement.
• After the martyrdom of Jadonang, Gaidinliu launched a strong insurrection against the British, for which she was imprisoned by the British for 14 years until being freed in 1947.
• Recognizing her role in the fight against the British, she was referred to as “Rani “.

Heraka movement

• Heraka was a socio-religious movement that originated in the Zeliangrong area in the 1920s.
• Heraka, which means “pure,” is a monotheistic religion whose adherents worshipped Tingkao Ragwang.
• It was founded by Jadonang to oppose the entrance of Christian missionaries as well as the British government’s reforms.
• He observed the persecution by British officials, who forced tribals to work in difficult conditions and levied a large monthly revenue levy on every home.
• Gaidinliu was a pioneer in the Heraka movement, which was founded by her cousin Haipou Jadonang.

Indian Freedom Movement

• Gaidinliu launched her own Non-cooperation Movement among Naga tribes.
• She made it impossible for the British government to operate in the region by ordering that all families refrain from paying taxes.
• She linked her spiritual position as a leader of the socio-religious movement to her role as a nationalist.
• She regularly invoked Mahatma Gandhi’s national efforts to inspire her people to oppose the British.
• “Loss of religion is loss of culture, and loss of culture equals loss of identity,” Gaidinliu argues.

Post independence and death

• Gaidinliu was opposed to the Naga National Council’s (NNC) desire for sovereignty and independence of Naga territories from India in independent India.
• In reality, she advocated for a distinct Zeliangrong region inside the Union of India.
• She was compelled to go underground in 1960 due to opposition from other Naga leaders to her demand.
• She subsequently made an agreement with the Indian government and disbanded the movement.
• Rani Gaidinliu died on February 17, 1993, at the age of 79.

Webinar on ‘Importance of Warehousing Registration and Benefits of e-NWR to FPOs/PACCs’

Context:

Recently, a webinar was organized by Warehousing Development and Regulatory Authority (WDRA).

What is e-NWR?

• Negotiable Warehouse Receipts, introduced in 2011, enable for the transfer of ownership of a product kept in a warehouse without requiring the physical item to be delivered.
• Because these receipts are provided in negotiable form, they may be used as collateral for loans.
• “Electronic Negotiable Warehouse Receipts (e-NWR) can be utilised for commodity deposit and withdrawal, as well as transactions such as transfer and pledge.”
• The Warehousing Development and Regulatory Authority inspired the concept of e-NWRs (WDRA).
• It was established in 2007 under the Warehousing (Development and Regulation) Act.

Characteristics of an eNWR:

• An eNWR is only available in electronic form.
• The Repository will be the eNWR’s only source of information.
• The repository shall ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the eNWR information.
• An eNWR has a temporal validity that corresponds to the commodity’s shelf life or the commodity’s complete departure from the warehouse, after which it expires.
• An eNWR can be auctioned off if specific circumstances are met, including as the loan not being returned, delivery not being accepted before the expiry date, and damage or spoiling of the product in the warehouse.
• All eNWRs are available for trading on off-market or online trading platforms/exchanges.

Benefits of eNWR: –

Warehousing Development and Regulatory Authority (WDRA)

• The Warehousing (Development & Regulation) Act, 2007, established WDRA to oversee the execution of its requirements.
• The Authority’s major goal is to establish the Negotiable Warehouse Receipt (NWR) system across the country.
• It also includes rules for warehouse growth and control, such as the negotiability of warehouse receipts, warehouse registration, and the encouragement of scientific storage of commodities.

Union Minister inaugurates centres for nano technology and Indian Knowledge System

Context:

Recently, Centre for Nano Technology (CNT) and Centre Indian Knowledge System (CIKS) were inaugurated at Guwahati.

Significance for North-Eastern Region

• CNT aspires to address future problems and strengthen academic-industry relationships in nanotechnology.
• The CNT is expected to produce key outcomes such as nano-enabled healthcare, energy harvesting, and LED prototypes, devices, and technologies.
• Besides a start-up/incubation ecosystem, high-end R&D outputs, capacity building of highly skilled manpower in the area of nanofabrication and nanoelectronics are also to be focused.
• CIKS will concentrate on conserving Indian classical music, yoga, Sanskrit, traditional remedies, temple architecture, ceramic culture and particular agricultural techniques of north-east India.
• It will also focus on herbal plants of north-east India as a health food, and Assamese metalwork.

Commissioning of indigenously designed INS Visakhapatnam

Context:

Recently, The PM expressed happiness for indigenously designed INS Visakhapatnam.

INS Visakhapatnam:

• INS Visakhapatnam is one of the four stealth guided-missile destroyer ships under Project 15B.
  (i) The Project 15B class of guided missile destroyers being built by Mazagon Dock Limited (MDL) for the Indian Navy.
  (ii) Project 15B comprises four ships — Visakhapatnam, Mormugao, Imphal and Porbandar.
• Significant Features of Visakhapatnam
  (i) State-of-the-art weapons
  (ii) Sensors such as surface-to-surface missile and surface-to-air missiles.
  (iii) Modern surveillance radar
  (iv) Anti-submarine warfare capabilities
  (v) Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) helicopters.
  (vi) Nuclear, biological and chemical (NBC) warfare capabilities

Huge success in registration at E-shram portal

Context:

Recently, the Union Minister oversaw the work of e-Shram registration.

E-shram Portal

• The Ministry of Labour and Employment has created the eSHRAM portal in order to create a National Database of Unorganized Workers (NDUW) that will be seeded with Aadhaar.
• It is the nation’s first comprehensive database of unorganised employees, which includes migrant workers, construction workers, gig and platform workers, and others.
• Workers who have registered on the e-Shram site will be eligible for the Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY).
• Any individual satisfying following condition can register on the portal:
  (i) An unorganised worker (UW).
  (ii) Age should be between 16-59 years.
  (iii) Not a member of EPFO/ESIC or NPS (Govt. funded)
